I have used a scenario from the book and ACW rules to have a closer look at the mechanics in action.

Have had some fun with these rules playing FPW. I have also played his next level up rules, Wargaming C19th Europe - Crimea and APW, both were very good games, although the two formations were changed, so columns were wider but less deep, whereas the line was now just a single base deep.

Nice review, very in depth too. I also have a copy of this book which I bought mainly for the scenario ideas.

As many of the scenario ideas began life in the now out of print 'Wargames Scenarios' (or was it 'Scenarios for Wargames') it is easy to expand these into full battles. Used to have that scenario book and it did me great service, then one day it disappeared (as did a 1/600th Peter Pig fort) at the same time as someone left the club.
