ANZAC alternative 25th April 2015

I hope this is the right place to put this, but its not a batrep as we haven't played the game yet.

This little project has been delayed somewhat by my father passing away and then coming home from that to find that one of my gaming mates of 40 odd years has a terminal condition...not good  

As I've been away I haven't been able to participate in the diorama building that Paul's been lucky enough to be involved with.

Paul and I have postulated a slightly different scenario for our game to play on 25th April to mark 100 years since the first day of the Gallipoli landings and we are looking forward to playing it out.

Rather than having the ANZAC's land at ANZAC Cove and have to climb the three great ridges inland on that place we struck on the idea that they could
instead land at Suvla Bay. The much flatter terrain of the Anafarta Plateau would allow the covering force to be much more co-ordinated and advance quickly to their
objectives inland, the main one is the village of Anafarta Sagir.

Anyway, we are using PM 10mm stuff from our 1914 and 1917 collections to stage the game later in the month. Will of course be doing a batrep AAR of the game

I've managed to base the remaining Turks for this game while waiting for some touch up washes on the 54mm to dry

Might be the last game I get to play for a while so looking forward to it - ANZAC day 2015 is a very special day in NZ.

Mrs Shy and myself are off to Scotland to attend a conference about the rare conditiion that causes our daughters delayed development and meet up with some of our rellies and friends.

Its a long way to go but worth every cent if it helps our young one develop better.

Also managed to squeeze in visits to Duxford, Bovington and maybe a couple of other such places. For the record we are doing plenty of stuff Mrs Shy wants to do too!

Hope to get to call into PM personally on the way south to order some more 10mm stuff. I'd would be great to be able to meet the PM team and thank them F2F for there fantastic service

Played Peter's alternative ANZAC scenario today at our local club, the meeting was moved to Sunday the 26th due to member commitments on ANZAC Day.

Also the local Cubs and Scouts 'camped' at the hall used by the club before going to the Dawn Service and returned for a breakfast afterwards.

A very even scenario, Mustafa Kemal is very grateful for the good shooting of the Gallipoli Gendarmerie Battalion

I will be doing a battle report from the Ottoman side and suspect Peter will do one from the Australian perspective.

Hmmm just because I write scenarios doesn't mean they always turn out my way 

I really like the rule concepts that TFL's use in their rules - even if the "tea break" card does seem to come up more often than not long before whichever side I'm playing has finished half what I need to do.

I was very pleased with how the terrain turned out for the game, amazing what we put together quickly with some sheets of packing foam, a big packet of lichen, Paul's desert basecloths and our usual terrain bits and bobs.

What happened? er well that depends who you listen to - usually the victors get to write history, but the Aussies fought today with courage, commitment and comradeship, just like 100 years ago - I'll put together a AAR from the ANZAC POV.

One special rule I should include next time we play - Paul will roll d4 rather than d6's when firing  ....I'd swear the Ottomans had laser pointers on their rifles/MG's and artillery pieces today
