Buy plenty of Matron's sculpts now!

If he keeps using the chainsaw, the value of his work will soon go up.

A white piece of card will work nearly as well as the mirror

Have you tried one of those little tripods from Poundland. I have two of different heights and they are really good at stopping the wobbles, DT's and any other cause of the dreaded shakes you can think of.

Will give that a go ;)

The waviness is on screen though; it's like a tv that's slightly out of tune with slow, vertically scrolling lines :-\

Amazing work !

I can' wait to see more  :D

Nice photo tips, JChaos and PaulR!  I do own a lightbox, but I tend not to set it up for the quick WIP photos.  Plus, I love tinkering with all the options on a new phone  :)

Small update.  I feel like I rushed this guy a bit.  Certainly the zoomed-in photo shows a couple of areas that could do with a tidy-up:

But hopefully, I should get my 5th marine finished tonight in time for a game of Fivecore at the weekend.  Then I'll have to concentrate on my Open University assignment for a couple of weeks before I can play again.

I'd use a white polystyren panel in this case.
Refract the light better, don't cause reflection.

Very good work! Can't wait to see a full tactical squad all prettied up  :D

I was hoping to do some scifi stuff in 10mm but the guy doing it with me wants 6mm  :'( :'( :'(

Atavus

Thanks for the comments everybody.  It's really helping me stay on track with this project.  Could this be the first project in over a decade that I finally see through to conclusion?  Fingers crossed...

Anyhoo, I should be confined to a quiet room right now and working on my assignment, but I couldn't resist posting an update on the Lamenters so far.  Here's another marine with bolter, bringing my total of marines up to five:

And, as promised, a group shot of the lads so far (the camera on my phone has a really pants focal width.  Good for single figures, but not so good for groups.  I'll take a better one with my camera next time):

Abhor the Xenos (the gloss varnish undoes a lot of the highlight work that went into this guy, but I really wanted shiny aliens):

Finally, a little look at the 'battlefield' in a pizza box (idea flagrantly stolen from someone on TMP, whose name I shamefully didn't remember, but who deserves credit for a great idea nonetheless), and the scenery that I started making when I realised that my stocks of 10mm scale scenery were... scant, to say the least:

If you're wondering "why a pizza box?", it's for the sake of convenience, really.  I'm not going to be playing any big games for a while, so I don't need a whole lot of space, and since we will be moving house in a couple of months, I figured something portable would be a good idea.  This way, I can have a game without having to dig through various boxes full of terrain/models.

There's some nice 6mm stuff out there, BeardedHammer.  Good variety, too.  I just feel like it's that little bit too small for games with individually based models (probably something to do with my aging eyes).  Mind you, if funds allow, there's nothing to stop you getting a few packs of 10mm models to show your pal what he's missing out on!

What they said - top notch.

I'd be tempted to do something Necromunda ish in scope, with a Rogue Trader era feel. So five models are a full "warband". Doubly so if they're Spez Maroons.
