If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

That is indeed sad news as it was Johnny Reb II that inspired me to fully develop my interest in the ACW and start buying and painting proper armies. He will be a great loss to the hobby.

 :o

I've still got some of his games ( Sq Leader, because I will never sent it away, etc. )  The rules Johnny Reb also gave us great games.

2015 is a bad year..

It's funny how someone you've never met can have such a big impact on your life.
I remember as a teenager saving up my money from mowing my neighbor's lawn to buy Squad Leader and all it's expansions. The only thing that motivated me to mow the yard was thinking, "I only need to mow it this week and next week then I can buy 'Crescendo of Doom'" or whatever expansion was available. Me and a buddy played SL frequently but since I owned it and it stayed at my house I mostly played solo.

When I began playing miniature wargames my group only did Napoleonics. Then John published "Johnny Reb" and I was to first to build armies for ACW. It remained my favorite game for many years. It showed me that miniature wargames were not just Napoleonics.

Thank you Mr. Hill.
