Hi Eric !

You can buy Pendraken miniatures : they are very good ! You can see some of them on my own blog http://abaqlesjeux.canalblog.com/archives/2014/11/25/31027681.html :

I used hussards and austrian grenzers for my Spanish Succession austrian army !

Obviously many troop types and nationalities aren't represented in the AWI so I presume you principally ask about British and French infantry and artillery - nothing else really translates.

Depends how picky you wish to be, technically no you shouldn't.

The cut of the 1768 Warrant is very different to the SYW/FIW and that's without considering the cut down coats and hats look. Most importantly the colours of breeches and waistcoats are completely different.

The AWI militia types can probably be mixed in with the FIW militia types but that's not much use in Europe for the SYW

You can sort of use SYW French as AWI troops who have not yet received new uniforms but even that's a stretch.

So if a bod in a tricorn is just a bod in a hat, then sure go for it - however given the size of armies deployed in both theatres in both wars I don't think you're saving much.

All your cavalry and all the Prussians, Austrians, Russians, French and minor nationalities need to come from the SYW lists - the redcoats are but a drop in the ocean. . .

I have actually used a mix of Pendraken SYW, Old Glory Grand scale SYW and a very small number of Irregular 10mm. The only AWI figures I have used are the casualties.

Front and left are Old Glory Prussian musketeers, right are Pendraken Prussian grenadiers.

Pendraken Prussian fusiliers, with behind and to the left Old Glory musketeers.

Hello chaps, I've been thinking along these lines myself. I was looking at the Hessans to use as well Hessans and other minor German states in the SYW. The Brunswick packs seem to have trousers or overalls but the Hessans are in gaitors which look the part.
The Grenadiers have Prussian style mitres the Fusiliers look good and the muskateer have pom poms. The Jaegers seem suitable as well.
I have to say all this is based on my very scetchy knowledge of SYW uniforms and a search of the web, so I expect to be shot down in flames be all the SYW experts. I have my tin hat ready :(

You might be a bit surprised by this but I would recommend using pendraken's dedicated SYW range and staying away from the AWI. Only really the Hessians would be useful everything else would be too different. The AWI figures are possibly a bit bulkier than the SYW and might not mix that well (that's why there are dedicated German figures in the AWI range).

The SYW range is pretty comprehensive and are the range that originally inspired me to sculpt 10mm, so you need not stray from it in my view, though I am pleased you like the AWI enough to use them!

Thanks for that Clib, it's a shame because they look so good. What would you suggest for Hessians, Prussians perhaps?
I have the Hannovarian packs with their Oak leaf clusters which are nice and I'm painting up some British grenadiers as Hanovarians. Are there any packs where they have pom poms on the tricorns?
Cheers Al. P.s sorry for highjacking the thread  :).

Good Evening !!!
thank you for all your valuable advice I will follow
I'll take in the range SYW
I think make the French and Prussian initially and some allies minor powers later
I would use the AWI figures just for the loss markers
I think using the rules of M & R seems to me an excellent system

What Clib is too modest to mention is that he sculpted the AWI range, and did a wonderful job  :) :D

LOA are a fantastic range and I hope that more new sculpts come out soon! I am building armies for both side at 52 foot per infantry regiment.  There will be about 10/12 regiments in each army plus cavalry and Dragoons, so a nice little project to keep me busy!

I am already looking at 7YW for my next project but think I need to finish the ACW first! lol
