hi everyone,

i plant to create a home made wargame with pendraken napoleonic figs.
i want it that way : 1 fig = 1 man on the battlefield.
as my table will be 1.80m on 2.40m i was thinking of 1 battaillon of infantry (600 mens); 1 squadron (dont know in english) of cavalry and some canons vs the same for the enemy.
does anyone have ever seen something like that? if yes ,is there any pictures?

thanks a lot.

There's shots of it done in 1/72 plastics on Benno's and/or HaT forums if you care to search for them.

Squadron is squadron in English. Usually four squadrons in an British cavalry regiment. A friend of mine has produced an 800 man English Civil War regiment in 6mm, but I don't have a photo.

Sounds cool - I have seen similar things done in a museum - but not at this size for wargames.

One thing you will want to test is that the figures can be ranked up closely enough to represent the correct spacing of the ranks and files of the formation. I would also check just how much space the whole unit takes up - and whether you will be able to move it around in a sensible way.

@sv52 : thanks. is "1/1 rate" the right term in english? (basicly i speak french :s )

@dour puritan: thanks. i was asking because i wanst sure of the english translation of "escadron"

@fred : yeah. you re totaly right but if the figures are based the same as the ww2 ones, then it should be ok. there bases are quite small. to see if it can be interesting to move on my table, i ll first make one company. then cut peaces of paper with the same size and the same amount as i want comapny at the end. then see if its playable. :D

@luddite : yes this work is totaly crazy :D i ve seen it before and wonder how it looks on a game table.

Generally in English we say 1:1 ratio. Pronounced ray-shio

One more thing to think about with small bases and only a few figures on them is how long it will take to move a 600 figure battalion, say 300 bases even at 5 seconds a base is 25 minutes :o

Movement trays might help  :-\

@ paulr: when I said small base, I was talking about the include base of the pendraken soldier. I meant that I could glue them next to each other and still respect the real distance between them. witch I thought it was the question of fred :D
so for my project, I ll make bases with 4 front and 3 deep. I thought about 8 like that with two officers (even if they were usually 3). I thought that way because like this I can put them in a sort of line (4 on the front) on a little mud countryside way like they use to travel all day long to another battlefield :D and for the battle I just put those bases side to side to make the line :D I don't know If I was understandable with my bloody english
