Hi All

Just a quick note to let you know that I saw that the 1/144 Zvezda Fairy Battle has arrived, as well as the 1/200 Sb-2 and 1/100 Cruiser Mk4

The fairey looks great!

Will need to add it to the collection! Those zvezda planes paint up nicely!

Techno

They look rather spiffy.

OO, cheers for the Battle piccy!

That's a definite for the AVBCW forces :)

I got their Po-2 biplane the other month and painted up lovely, just need to decide which faction it's for :D

I still need their biplane, the german spotterplane and then this one.

I always wait untill there are a few new ones to order togheter, saves on shipping.

Shame their bombers and transports are 1/200 instead of 1/144, or i would buy them all! I just can't bring myself to mix the scales on the table.

toxicpixie

It doesn't look bad together with aircraft, IMO - once they're on flight stands and all buzzing around as markers I don't really notice the difference unless it's huge :)

The Po-2 is a lovely little beastie. I popped a couple of Peter Pigs WW1 crew in as well, with silk scarves a fluttering and goggles firmly on - they look ace!

Vic, thanks for sharing this. Their PO-2 is at a decent price.  The rest of the prices confirm want good value the 'cottage industries' like Pendraken actually are.

Just picked up the Fairey Battle this afternoon as a birthday present from the family :D. Can't get to open it until Sunday though :(.

If your going for VBCW you could modify as a floatplane:-

Not real but from this website (lots of good ideas):-

Oo, that's funky! I don't know I there's much open water round here to fly them off. Frankley Resevoir or the canals maybe?!

You could always add rotors and make it into a gyrocopter  :D :D.

Then it could land in most bodies of water.

I've just made an Aichi Grace into an autogyro (with Stuka undercarriage) for a character in my pulpy stuff -

Angus "Stormy" Skye, the Air Ranger (takes the place of the Lone Ranger in my interwar Pony Wars setup)

Love the idea of a floatplane as it would fit in nicely with my AVBCW forces 8).

toxicpixie

@GrumpyOldMan - I do like me a bit of pulp fun :) But autogyro's in AVBCW is a step past reality for me. And yes, I am aware of how utterly daft that statement is :D But a float plane version... tempting... Frankley Water isn't far from the Longbridge Plant where the Birmingham Union Militia are based, so...

Hello TP

I don't know why you say that an autogyro is beyond the pale for VBCW, they were popular in the 1930s.

Here are some pics of Amelia Earhart with an autogyro in the early 1930s:-

Surely all that is just waiting to be woven into a VBCW and/or Pulp storyline.

Actually, Wiki tells me the RAF used a few dozen, partly for army co-op work and partly in the radar calibration work, so I guess it's a possibility. Wonder if anyone does a 1/144th Cierva C.30/Avro 671 :D

I think the Battle sized one is a bit hopeful (and who chops the worlds foremost light attack bomber into one when they're needed on the front lines?), but the Longbridge Shadow Plant did make them so they'd be a shoe-in for the BUM...

Can I sing the praises of the Pendraken Storch ? In service from 1937 until Indo-China with the French made version.  It s a well sculptured and clean cast model and at £4 won't break the bank. I use BKC so spotter and ground attack are really all the aircraft you need unless you like eye candy.

Steve J

Ah, forgot about the Storch for my German forces! Just added to the list of future purchases.

I've attached a paper model I've had on my hard drive for ages. I think it was by 'Kampfflieger', an old free model. Tricky build though as a full paper model. Probably better to replace all the struts with brass rod and the rotors from flashing or similar.

There is a Russian autogyro based on the I16 available from Shapeways:-

and a two seater Japanese job if you like splashing cash:-
