My recollection is that winning or losing for either side tends to depend on the weapons chits drawn. That said I haven't played this since the mid-eighties so my memory may be suspect.

Definitely a "beer & pretzels" game, the higher the intake of beer the less you care about the random nature of the game!!

We did as a convention style game on a 6x4 with the ship painted on it and figures instead of counters..Good fun

Yes, with a bit of luck.  If the crew can get a good area effect weapon like fire extinguishers or gas bombs, then they can take the monsters out quite effectively.

I have just encountered this game this month. I love it, and probably no to original question

Always good fun though, I found.
