Those very kind people from WRG have provided a free down-load for personal use while waiting for the rules to be printed here:

I have always had a soft spot for DBA. Although simple and small which can be less than satisfying, they are quick and because many games a session can be played it is an ideal way of fighting a campaign.

Now 10mm troops on 25mm bases would look like a real army mmm.  :-\

(What am I saying I already have a mountain of Napoleonic's to paint, and I need more than Russian, Germans, Japs, and Jungle British for WW2, and I plan to do the Russian Revolution and Modern Cold War when they are available   :o:'()

Cheers, Rob  :)

I've always enjoyed DBR as a fairly simple lead-in to the Renaissance, but DBA always seemed too much like chess for my taste. Each to his own, I guess.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

The quick game and the campaign are definitely the big selling points with DBA. My DBA armies are 10mm figures on 60mm frontage bases which does make the 12 bases look much more like an army.

I'm using DBA as a useful testing ground for my recent foray into 10mm.  Thought I'd paint two small armies to get a feel for the scale before launching into something more substantial.  And I'm attracted to the short game thing as well.

By having my 10s on the 60mm bases I can increase my DBA armies to produce Impetus armies (my favourite rules for Ancient, Medieval and early Renaissance).

I downloaded a copy of Basic Impetus.  It looks really good.  If (when!) I decide to go Ancient in a big way, I'll give it a go.

Whilst the rules structures are the same & Basic Impetus plays fine, "full fat" Impetus adds a lot and makes for a *really* good game! DBA 3.0 looks interesting - downloaded the rules yesterday, I like the changes to Pike & Spear into "set" double ranks... would like to see the suggested army lists though...

Hmm, I just might. I'm trying not to join anymore Yahoo! groups, it's a pain of a service these days :D

I've been sticking to a hybrid Impetus, Basic with a few extras from the full rules.

Does that work like the Impetus Large Unit rules?

Sort of... basically it means they automatically deploy in a double depth base with double figures, and then get a combat bonus against (most) opposing elements. If the army lists treat them as a single element out of twelve that's great (cracking solution to the incredible shrinking army issue), but if they count as two I'd be less than chuffed... I think it's the former but can't find any sample lists to check!
