Spent some time recently building an airfield fr Victor Charlie to over run.

Finally got it together and first games (using Charlie Dont Surf ) were at the weekend.  Not all Pendraken products ( but you dont do F-105s yet!)

The action swung back and forward in all 3 games played, but I think all 3 panned out as at least political victories for the NVA espeiually when they stopped an F-105 and dragged the pilot off to Hanoi.  Cant see Cronkite liking that one!

The base defences and the airborne one arrived kicked ass but generally too late to prevent damage.  May not have been too acurate (doubt they ever got that close to fast movers) but everyone enjoyed

Most of the fast movers were out-country - Thailand. Excellent stuff though.

Good game and an unusual scenario.  :-bd

Inspiration was a pic I saw ages ago if a wrecked F-4 in revetments at Da Nang tho as you say most was out country.  Air movements were by card/ dice and include C-130 ( complete with a platoon of airborne to join battle). A C-123 with one engine out and a shot up phantom with WSO needing urgent treatment

Cool looking stuff, I need some myself!

How do you like Charlie Don't Surf?  I have IABSM; if you're familiar with that, how are the two different?  I've been contemplating buying CDS, just haven't pulled the trigger.

Regarding fast movers, it's true that all, or at least most, F-105s were in Thailand, but that's because they weren't for CAS, they were strike aircraft working over the "Packs" in North Vietnam.  But a lot of CAS aircraft, as well as CAP aircraft (F-4s and F-100s in particular) were based in RVN.

Come on now, kicki out some more batreps for us!

I have both, but not yet played CDS.  They are very similar - fire table and casualty tables are different, but mechanisms the same.  From memory there is a mechanism for the Viet Mihn (their proper name)to disappear back onto blinds.  Also they get victory points for political/propaganda stuff - they don't need to win the firefight to win a game.  Also there are cards that mean that the US have to casevac casualties, stuff like that.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

Not played IABSM but really enjoy CDS.  Captures the asymmetric aspect well and as stated by Last Hussar the Viets may lose the firefight but gain a political victory.  Will write up AARs this weekend hopefully.

Plenitude of F-105s was down to discovering a Japanese manufacturer who does them in boxes of 3 and I ended up with 3 boxes.  Seemed rude not to use them

It had the performance of a streamlined brick. They didn't call it a "led-sled" for nothing.

I got back from Hanoi two days ago. Don't believe what they tell you, it's a pretty agreeable city.
