I have just been listening to Desert Island Disks and it got me thinking about the one Luxury Item the person is allowed.

For non UK members who may not be familiar with "Desert Island Disks".  THis is a radio show where a celebrity is asked to chose 10 musical recordings to take with him, and why he has chosen them.  Theyare  given a copy of the Bible and the Complete Works of William Shakespear, and allowed to choose a luxury item to take with them

If you were stranded on a Desert Island what would you choose assuming a wargames army is your luxury item

Choose one wargames army and one of its Historical or in the case of a fantasy or Sci fi army its traditional opponents.
Choose One ruleset.

I would choose

A Rennaisance army of Maximillian 1
Valois French Army
Wamaster Ancients with Medieval supplement.

This would allow lots of morphing and I like its variety of troops and Colour

For me:

Period would be late 16th century
Armies Turks and Imperialists
Rules: Pike & Shotte

That's difficult! It depends on the day of the week.

I think possibly Italian campaign 1943 - mixed UK and US vs Germans and Italians.
I'd take my own rules.

Ask me tomorrow, it will be something else.

I would take blitzkrieg commander and my german and british '44 forces

Leman

I would take Venetian and Papal early C16th and Impetus rules.

Obviously the figures will be 10mm and Pendraken but are we limited to number of figures/size of armies?

Byzantines and Arab Conquest for the armies and Warmaster Ancients for the rules.  Lots of scope for campaigns as well as one off battles.  I might even save the empire for Holy Mother Church!

Seven Years War Prussians and Austrians, I never tire of the colourful uniforms. And my own Fusilier rules. Of course I'd insist on the finest sculpted terrain to go with them.

As with favourite book/ movie/ food it would change from day to day ( or possibly hour to hour!) but currently it would have to be two Sumerian city state armies and my own rules - on a desert island I might make enough time to finish and properly playtest the rules :)

10mm Pendraken goes without saying!

period would be Eastern Europe 1918 - 1923 just to make sure it includes the RCW russian/polish war and the dust up in the Baltics.

Rules??  Red Actions!

Well you could have a really good sand table
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Subedai

Mongols and Polish (to be Pendraken pc). Otherwise Mongols and Chinese.

My own ongoing The Fury of the Tartars Ruleset. The thinking being that on a desert island I would have loads of time to finish them and probably playtest them to death.

I think I'd go with French and British peninsular Napoleonic 10mm, (all of them in 1:1 ratio) and the black powder rules with my own brigade rules added in! It's a big island right? so as long as I could map out Portugal and Spain to 10mm scale I could use the rest of my life recreating the campaign adding in marching rules and real time sieges!

Grandiose, absurd and unworkable ... I approve of this plan!!

No Limit to the size of army or number of figures, we will assume the lifeboat can take what you need ( remember need and want are interchangeable in wargamer speak).
