Free Trees

From acorns.....

I found these seed pods / mini pine cones on some trees as my parents house in the early summer and being the freebie junkie that I am I picked up about 30 or so to see if I could use them in some way with my 10/15mm terrain.



Having let them throughly dry out for a few of months, my mind turned to making them into trees for some normandy orchards, so I cut the stems so they were relatively straight, superglued them to pennies and then flocked them with a green turf mix. A bit of grit on the base, and this is them sat in my make shift spray booth having just been varnished.



Bases will be given a quick wash with Sepia shade, and then given my usual grass treatment so they match the rest of my terrain. Total cost......1p each(for the pennies) + glue, flock and wash which I had already. I'll post some in game pics at the weekend.

Super quick, super cheap,

Yep, those are the same 'cones' I've used on some of my orchard trees. Really effective though.

A quick Google image search confirms they are Alder cones.

What ever they are, leave them a good few months to dry so that all the seeds come out before you flock them.
