Splendid !  8)
I noticed no one is smiling on the pics..

Those are truly astonishing - I have seen nothing even distantly approaching that quality for that period.  Thank you for posting.

Astonishing indeed....
I'd almost go so far as to say... too good for that era ? :-\ :-\ :-\
Cheers - Phil.

... but good enough to remind me I have some Pendraken resin to get painting :)

Well....

I've done a quick bit of investigating.....And it would appear these were taken by a pioneer of colour photography named Sergei Prokudin Gorskii.
Apparently these images have been enhanced thanks to modern technology....But are probably very true to life.....So they are a wonderful glimpse of times gone by.

Cheers - Phil.

Outstanding images. Shame there's no translation.  :(
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Excellent pictures

When I was doing my 10mm RJW project I found that googling in Cyrillic brought up loads more sites than using English. I used google translate to convert searches from English to Russian

Good idea Hadn't thought of that
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

If you google translate the pages, you can have info on the locations, and on the photographer.

He used 4 plates.

Amazing photos and extremely useful for painting buildings. Another era that has gone with the wind.

yes. But even if I'm half Ukrainian ( and half Breton), I would not like to live in this time in these places.

I have just GOT to do some more investigating into these piccies...To suss out exactly how the photo's were done....and how much is down to digital enhancement.
Did the photographer use just one lens on the camera ?....How long did the people or landscape have to stay in  exactly the same position, if the chap was swapping plates ?...And for how long ?
Mind boggling to someone who used to think he knew lots about photography.

Cheers - Phil.
