Don't know what toilet paper we had at primary school back in the 1980s - came in small, cardboard boxes, single piece tracing paper-type, but yeah ... That was, not so much wipe as redistribute. Once experienced, never again, for me. Never needed to find out what the bog roll was like at secondary school, early to late 90s.
Rimmer: "Aliens."

Lister: "Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it?

Rimmer: "Well, we didn't use it all, Lister. Who did?"

Lister: "Rimmer, aliens used our bog roll?"

We had something similar in the 1950's. Single sheets similar to wax paper dispensed from a locked metal box. Only used in a dire emergency. My Grandparents' generation used corncobs, so a vast improvement I would think.

My colleague has just typed HMP Louvrepool... so I am guessing sometimes it's open, sometimes it's closed...

If its anything like the louvre window in my bedroom as a kid ,its permanently ajar.  The glass only closed to the point where each section had a half inch gap to the next. not really a problem in summer, but in winter it was cold. I used to roll over and switch the two bar electric fire on half hour before getting up.

State of play at the moment is Ottoman Napoleonics half painted, WSS one and a bit armies to paint; French Napoleonics unpainted; Royalists mostly unpainted -probably about 2000 figures there.

SciFi - well they're pretty much all done - Blackforce, Brownforce and Blueforce just need a bit of basing.

But it's that time again - POD (Pendraken Ordering Day). I'm a man of regular habits, the very embodiment of the "shut up and take my money" meme - but what to do? What to do?

I have several options:
  • I can start buyimg another Napoleonic army. The Portuguese are favourite at the moment, 'cos the others on the list (Saxons, Italians and Spanish) all wear white. This will take about 6-8 months, so I should be able to get a bit caught up.
  • I can start on the Russo-Japanese war. Again 6 months or so.
  • I can put in a holding order for bases, paint, scenery, big aeroplanes etc
  • Something else (e.g. Ancient Indians)

At the back of my mind is the words of the Pendraken Plans for 2024 "followed by (SF) ranges 5 and 6 in early February."  :-\   So are 5 and 6 imminent? I can hear Milday's tinkling laughter - "Nobby, you poor fool, you cannot win!"  She is of course, quite right. If I put in a holding order, we play the game again next POD, if I start a new project she will graciously allow the Dark Lord to release SF 5 and 6, so forcing me into yet another quandry. I would hate to play chess against such an implacable but daintily dimpled opponent.

Do I hang on for the next SF, or do I start a new project?   :-/   What to do? What to do?

Belated welcome back fsn............hope all is well with you.

I really liked how you painted up your SciFi entry that appeared in the painting competition (well done for your Late Romans doing so well too  :) ).

What to do next gaming wise? well to me that's always a pretty personal decision.....how's the Bishop's War coming on?......We should be onto our Newburn scenario by the end of the year.

See you a bit later today if you can make it along.

Minor delay on ranges 5 & 6, just due to a deadline for another project and then a load of work needed prepping a new product line (announced about 5 minutes ago...!)  Sci-Fi range 5 is all done and moulded, range 6 should be moulded in the next 10 days, and then I'll prep them for release around Friday 22nd.

On other plans, the AWI are going into master moulds this coming week and we'll have some previews of the new IndoChina figures for you tomorrow.

Thank you. I've been terribly busy at work, lots of things going on. I'm hoping to be able to devote more time to the hobby.

I have been a bit derailed by the SF releases. Scots all done, a few bits of the English done, but I'm not happy with them. There may be a Dettol bath for some cavalry.  :-\

Sorry, Sir, I am but gently pulling your leg for some base amusement. It is my problem, not yours. Fortunately, I've have put a holding order in, so should be good to go for 5 & 6 next POD.  :)

Just noticed there is a logo on my box of tea bags - "Plant based tea bags".

Dunno what you lot are drinking then...

I'm guessing you are drinking tea in bioplastic bags rather than bog standard teabags made with plastic not derived from plants.

An element of greenwashing, perchance?

My first SF miniatures must have been 15mm Traveller figures from the very late 1970's. These figures were often to be found in spaceships, so naturally they got a flat grey base. When they weren't on a ship, my characters were on station or in a city and very rarely ventured into the countryside, so grey didn't matter.

In 2013, when I found the one true scale, it seemed natural to continue grey bases. Dragonhead, my 1960s Scottish town that randomly attracts people and things from all over the place and time, is mostly concrete and tarmac, so grey bases are OK.

Then Pendraken do SF in a big way. Woo-hoo! Grey bases just seemed to happen.  :-\

OK, so now we need justification ... and welcome to planet M1-50A-500Y. The captain of the first ship to visit was stroking the ship's cat - a British Shorthair  - and remarked that the planet was "as smooth and grey as the Eric's backside", and so the official name was dumped for "Eric".

Eric (the Planet)      Eric (the Cat)

Eric (the planet) is indeed both smooth and grey. It is said that nobody has ever placed a flag in Eric in case it burst. However, there is water beneath the surface which has given rise to a vivid and diverse plant life. They grey colour is due to qualtities of reduced iron or other minerals like manganese in the sandy surface.

With an atmosphere that can support human life, water just below the surface and abundant minerals, it was only a matter of time before competing forces arrived to stake a claim. Being 0.8g means that anti-grav venicles can whip easily over the surface.

The Blues have gone for a large number of autonomous drones, small missile firing units able to lay down a withering barrage, and a swarm of airborne drones that can snipe or overwhelm.

The Browns are quite conventional. Tanks and IFVs mostly with a couple of anti-vehicle missile units.

The Blacks are also conventional, but have unarmed APCs rather than IFVs. To make up for it, they have serious missile artillery attached.

All three of these wait nervously for the Greens who will probably kick any of them into next week. Will there be alliances made? How long will they last? Aside from Humans, could there be alien species that know of Eric?
