You don't get to be a multi-billion dollar company by spending money on things like customer service. I don't know when the tipping point is for a company that it gets big enough that its customer service can be poor. 

I get there is the need to screen out scams and idiots who just waste time and being big will attract more of these

Anyone else remember the Terran Trade Authority series of books from Stewart Cowley?



This book - the first - told a potted history of the 21st century, and the tale of the wars with Proxima Centauri, and of contact with the inhabitants of Alpha Centauri.

Needless to say we are nowhere near where it hoped we would be in spaceflight & technology.
