Barnard Castle is the last place I went to when on holiday with my parents. It was a gloriously sunny day, we went to Bowes Museum and saw the mechanical swan in action, wandered round the castle that presumably gives the place it's name, had a brief stroll around the town centre and finished up by eating some rather nice ice cream cones in the car.

Well worth a visit if/ when there is no lockdown.

Sounds nice, but a bit to far north. Only been up that far for a holiday 3 times in my life.

Bernard Castle is a lovely little market town, with a good castle right there in the middle of the town. We visit (briefly) quite often as it is on the route from us over to Durham and the NE, and its a good half-way point to stop and have a walk around and visit a cafe.

Never had call to visit their opticians though.

Is being Techno catching?

Because I'm using a craft knife while drinking cider.

Can we have the full story ?

I can't say whether you've caught Techno's syndrome, until I know whether you're holding the craft knife between your teeth.

I am unharmed.

I was making game markers by printing them on A4, sticking to the back of vinyl tiles then blade and steel ruler to cut them out.

I've just watched the excellent Mark Felton video on the Breda Panther Tank (Breda being a Dutch town, not an Italian company -- that confused me.) anyway, I was struck by the sheer elegance and horrific beauty of the Panther tank. Stap me, but the Panther is a truly awesome looking vehicle.*

Just to clear this up, it's BreDA, not BREda, the emphasis is on the second syllable.

As for the impressive looking Panther, I'm reminded of the punchline to a completely different joke.

:-bd  -  but are you interfering with the Englishman's God-given right to mispronounce the names of other places? Dammit, man, next thing you know you'll be insisting he get English right!

In English we tend to stress the middle syllable of any word, whereas in other languages there is even emphasis across the whole word. I noticed this watching 'Homeland' last night where the 'English' actor did this with a name, whilst the 'Middle Eastern' one did not.

Can I just point out I was going from the written title?

I thought I had stumbled upon the Italians building German tanks ...
