Actually I have several questions as I try to organize a Viet force for the French Indo-China theater.

Apparently the Viet army was divided into three tiers.  The lowest and poorest armed tier would be local militia called the Tu Ve.  The second tier was regional/provincial forces produced by levying the best troops from the Tu Ve.   Then the third and best armed tier is the main force NVA called Chu Luc.  So my first question is whether the Bo Dai Phoung listed in the Pendraken Viet forces are regional forces or something else?

My second question has to do with the Pendraken figures VM19 from the Indo-China list.  They are listed as bazooka teams but doesn't give nationality.  So does anyone know if they are Viet or French bazooka teams?

Finally does anyone have links to a good squad level TOE for the Viets during the French Indo-China conflict?  I would like to use "I Ain't Been Shot, Mum" rules which is one figure, one man with the squad as the basic maneuver element.

The best place I can think of for TOE would be the indochina Yahoo group.

Those ones are Viet teams.

I'm not sure on the Bo Dai Phuong, I'll have to check on those and get back to you.

Thanks all!  Even with google searches, I couldn't find references to the Bo Dai Phung outside of Pendraken and those selling Pendraken Bo Dai Phung.  It would make a good final Jeopardy question.

Hi

They are the second tier troops.

They were tied to their home areas and once they had proved themselves trained and competent they would be elevated(sometimes as whole units) to the chuc luc regular divisions for use all over vietnam.

The yahoo group is a mine of info with some guys who really know their stuff.

It is by far my favorite wargaming period.

Thanks Jim.  So they were the regional/provincial troops.  My understanding is they were picked from the best of the local militias.

What rules are you using for the French Indo-China theater?  I am planning on using I a'int been Shot, Mom since the equipment is basically WW2.  Although I imagine some of the concepts from Charlie Don't Surf would be very useful.

Hi

I use cold war commander mainly because they are the only set out there. Each base represents a platoon but I prefer a base as a squad. So the basic group for command purposes is the company.

You'd want to look at using the Political victory conditions and di di mau rules from CDS I'd say, otherwise I ain't been shot, Mum will work pretty well.
