As Japanese WW2 artillery is limited in the Pendraken range I decided, as I wanted towed field artillery, to covert existing models. I originally went for the Type 95 75mm howitzer, which had a simple split trail and was developed from the French Schneider piece. However, for various reasons, I switched to the venerable Type 38 75mm piece, which was developed from the German Krupp WW1 77mm Feldkannon.

The Japanese modified it by fitting a new box-trail in place of the original pole-trail, which allowed the weapon to be elevated to 44 degrees and increased its range significantly. Other than that, the weapon was identical in appearance to the Krupp piece.

It was simply a matter of clipping off the old pole trail and substituting the box one. I originally used superglue to fix it in position, but this proved too weak. A small slab of Green Stuff did the trick and provided a reasonably solid joint.

Nicely done! :) Were the box trails scratch build, or robbed form another gun?

Hertsblue

They were scratch-built using pictures of a 1/72nd model and photos of the original gun. Took me a couple of tries before they looked right.
