Having spent ages putting together several SCW forces, Pete Rushton put on the first SCW game at Burnley Wargames club tonight.

Using my WW2 rules as they are, with one base = 1 squad, the scenario revolved around 6 squads of Republican rural militia (plus one on horses) and 6 squads of police holding  a village in front of  a river crossing. Attacking was a Nationalist flying column of 8 squads of Assaltos in lorries with 1 armoured car, 1 Company of Moroccans with attached MMG platoon, and a Morrocan cavalry platoon.
We rated troops as:
rural militia DT4 CV7
police CT4 CV7
Moroccans BT4 CV9
Assaltos BT4 CV8

The Assaltos drove down the road and debussed in front of the village, prompting as many defenders as possible to use opportunity fire to bring them to a halt. In the next turn the rural militia on CV7 rolled 4 activations and shot the debussing Nationalists to bits at 300m range with rifle fire! Rolling two double ones with one platoon helped (small arms bonus) - the 1914 BEF couldn't have done much better as a full platoon was gunned down. And the militia cavalry charged the Moroccan cavalry skirmishing on nearby hills. Not having sabres these cavalry were wiped out by the the regular Moroccans with ease.

Over subsequent moves the rural militia held off the Assaltos, reducing them to two 3 man sections by the end of the game. The Moroccans were given a hard time for a while by the police platoons, but gradually their superior CV told and they were pushed back. Reinforcements came on for both sides, the Republicans accidentally gaining a CV35 platoon, one with a flamethrower. These promptly fried a Moroccan cavalry section that was causing a nuisance on the Republican right flank. One CV35 was later knocked out in the flank at 100m range by the Nationalist armoured car - it had only a MMG!
Republican T-26s arrived but failed to acheive anything other than improving the air conditioning on the armoured car!

After that the Republican morale collapsed, the rural militia retiring in good order whilst the police fled! The Nationalists won, but at a large cost in casualties, out of 72 riflemen in the Assalto company only 6 remained, and over half the Moroccans were casualties. The poor militia lost a mere 6 riflemen, plus their 12 cavalry scouts, along with around 30 of the 108+ police.

Overall a good first test of my WW2 rules for the period, Pete took some pics but they came out awful. We'll try better next time!
