1870 - Somewhere in Lorraine.

"Chaps,
Reported in the London Illustrated News today, looks like the French and the Prussians had a jolly little dust up.
The forces met across a crossroads town of... well, I can't pronounce that, dashed foriegn lingo, it's so Passe!
Anyway, accoring to this, the Prussian Cavalry arrived first to meet the French deployed in line along a series of shallow ridges and holding the town.

The Prussians deployed their horse artillery, who immediately fired on the French line, whilst the Cavalry tried to find the end of the French line to their right.
At this point the Prussian's first infantry division arrived, and upon hearing the sound of the guns, marched straight at the settlement.


Where they tried to shift the plucky French Chasseurs from the buildings with Jagers, when this failed, the whole division infantry from the Division was dragged into the fight,  but tenasciously the French held on.
Extra Prussian brigades and division marched to the sound of the guns, feeding their infantry into the attack and their artillery into the gun line.

Meanwhile, the French right flank failed to rouse itself time and again and failed to swing in to support their collegues!

But on the extreme left a French brigade , supported by a division of French Heavy cavalry, moved forwards to threaten the Prussian right and roll up the developing gun line.


Which was held off by a valient counter-charge by two Prussian cavlary charges, which forced the French back on their lines, as two brigades from the Wurttenberg Division finally arrived and swung their guns into action.



As night fell, the French resistance around the township crumbled and the Prussian artilley line was able to clear the way for their infantry to seize the highground.
Looks like the Froggies took a bashing from the Prussian there!"

It was a good Black Powder game, corps level with divisions rather than brigades, and based for Volley and Bayonet; first time we'd tried street fighting. Sorry I forgot my camera and had to take these on my mobile!

White stripes : I know, they are a bit of a jar, sorry. On the plus side, they have unit details on them e.g. '78th Infantry, (1 Battalion), 6th Division, III Corps' otherwise you can't tell whose who for Volley and Bayonet or other rule sets where you need the strength of each regt on paper, and which box they go back into! Unfortunaely, they just don't show up on my mobiles piffiling 2.0meg lens!
They also need to be big enough for my short sighted friends to read!

Aye, that's always what's put me off V&B (otherwise a good set of rules).

Nice FPW set-up there though.  Inspires me to get my French painted up for my own bash...(after my 28mm Tudor force for FOG, and 15mm Swedish for FOGR of course).

I'm keen to kick the FPW painting out of the way and to get it 'on the table' so i can really start into the 10mm next project.

Try using different coloured dots (paint pens are excellent for this)

Dot bottom left = Division
Dot middle = Brigade
Dot bottom right = Regiment

Great idea. Will certainly give that some thought!
Think I might do on the next project, but since I started this one nearly 3 years ago, I might as well finish them like that now...
