Hi

I'm doing a pub quiz round where they have to match the name to the map of shipping areas.

I want a few fakes, to make it a bit less obvious.  Any suggestions?

I've already thought of Dublin and Anglia.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

You could do an East or West Utsire (North and South are real ones), which might confuse folks.

Rivers that don't have an area, like the Tees, Severn, Mersey, Trent.

Islands could be Orkney, Skye, Shetland.

Or just random nonsense like South Gare, Upper Windfall, Groats.

Fitzroy is now known as Finisterre, so might catch some people out.

Heligoland, Frisia or Frisian Islands, Western Baltic, Western Approaches.

I think it's the other way around, the area was renamnamed Fitzroy in 2002, after the creator of the Met Office.

Yes, now Fitzroy. Renamed because the Spanish have a Finisterre, and it was thought it may cause confusion.

Thanks for the clarification on Fitzroy sea area. I thought this was the new name, but when I checked on the Met Office and the map I saw still had Finisterre on it! I blame the cold Ive got for being a muppet and not checking properly :-[ !

I've gone with
Caledonia, Shetland, Dublin, Wash

Shetland is actually Fair Isle
Caledonia would be any of Malin, Hebrides, Fair Isle, Cromerty of Forth
Dublin is Irish Sea
And Wash is actually Humber.
