Dear Mr Leon.

Thank you for the sale. That it started the day after I put an order in is neither here nor there. I have taken to opportunity to save bigly on what will be a reinforced brigade of the army of Baden.

Slightly worried that the only thing I have left in my plan now is an Italian army of 1813. Would be a good time for the Amazons or the Squidlings or some chariots. :)

You beat me to it!  There is indeed a 10% flash sale this weekend, just as we're not at Salute this year.

No problem. It was only a small order anyway.

Though it does fit with my theory that Milady has a malevolent interest in me.

I had more or less completed an order on Saturday night, late into the small hours when I looked at the news page only to find SALE ENDS SUNDAY. as it was already Sunday AM I scratched it, feeling a bit miffed. After all I hadn't been to salute.

Depends on your definition of 'small' though...
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

Interestingly, both Baccus and Eureka also had "Not-at-Salute" sales. Is there a trend amongst traders of no longer going to Salute?

Although I understand that Baccus' absence was cock-up rather than choice.

I think there's been a few of the traditional companies who've decided not to go in recent years, which is a mix of the costs involved, the shift towards Sci-Fant and 'one shot' games, along with the inevitable aging of the manufacturers.

For us last year, it cost us £2060 to attend.  Sales were a bit lower than the previous year and by the time we'd accounted for cost of sales on the products, we were left with a little over £1100 by the end of it.  For 2 of us, spending 3 or 4 days in London, plus a couple of days loading / unloading the van before/afterwards, it's barely £100 per day of earnings, never mind cashflow back into the business.

So for us, and I think a lot of other companies, it becomes a visibility / advertising event instead, which is much harder to calculate the benefit of.

Although I understand that Baccus' absence was cock-up rather than choice.
I think a lot of traders are thinking this way. Before He moved to France Steve Barber of Steve Barber models had decided it was more profitable ways to use his time.

I only go to Salute if helping out a trader. It costs around £30 to attend with train fare, pre booked ticket and a coffee, add a sandwich and you are nearing the £40 mark.

It used to be a good show to find unusual items, or get stuff from European traders. when I went last year this was not the case. It was mainly non historical games and traders.  I ended up spending £20 at "The last valley" and that was it.

Consequently I would rather have a day at home and spend the £40 I would spend attending online.
