Chesty Bond

Hello from Australia.
I'm a casual war-gamer and serious geek with an interest in all things sci-fi, fantasy and superhero, I also love history.

I have had a long term goal of finding rules to play a game pitting Wellsian Martian tripods against victorian/early 20th century humans against the germ growing aliens from the (obscure) early Australian Sci/fi novel The Germ Growers, and was pointed in the direction of Future War Commander.
So I ordered a copy which arrived today (yay!) And have signed up to this forum in order to ask a few questions about the possibility of using these rules to play the game I invision!
Any advice would be appreciated!

Lowering the tone here? A herculean task!  ;D

That said, a finer collection of well read, well meaning weirdos and thread derailment experts you will not find anywhere online!

I can't help with Wellsian sci-fi but I can wish you a very warm welcome and express a hope that in time there will be photos and after action reports of games featuring the dastardly Martian invaders and plucky British chappies fighting them.

Welcome & see my other reply about Wellsian sci-fi.

I am also looking at creating other 'martian' type lists for FWC, but my thoat needs to go out for its afternoon constitutional.

I googled "Chesty Bond" and was very disappointed to find it is some muscle-man in a vest.

I would also point out that there is a hierarchy of tone-lowering to be respected. We usually allow the Dukes and Lords to have the first go. :)

I pride myself on writing my own rules, but have succumbed to the FWC. I may have questions myself.

Welcome from across the Ditch Chesty Bond :)

Don't worry there are a few Kiwi regulars here too.....

Good luck with your SciFi project. Like most others I have not heard of "The Germ Growers" but do post some updates as you progress the project. Always good to see what other gamers are playing.

Cheers

Interested in mention of FWC.  My choice, long ago [about 2011], was Alien Squad Leader.  I never got it to the table as my armies remain incomplete.  Is anyone familiar with them both and can comment on the differences?  What factors are key?

Thanks for the warm welcomes guys!

Yes we did, that thread lead me to Future War Commander, so I ended up coming here!
Seems like a nice place!

Yes, Chesty is an old Aussie superhero who gets powers from wearing a vest, I have an interest in old Aussie superheroes and superhero gaming.

I'd love to see how the rules cover the somewhat primitive cultures of Burroughs Martians, and will view your army lists with great interest!

Admit it Nobby you were not googling "Chesty Bond". You simply miss-spelled the second word. :d

Chesty Bond

;D  ;D  ;D

Chesty Bond is the mascot of an underwear company in Australia, sadly no longer much used, but in his day he had his own strip in the paper and even fought Hitler and the Axis, all wearing his super strength giving singlet.
I have a half converted figure of him made out of a Mr Incredable figure.
I intend to use him in superhero games with other Aussie superheroes eventually, like the Australian Captain Atom and Crimson Comet, all Australian Golden Age characters.
I tend to gravitate more to the older superheroes.

Are there any other superhero fans here?

I am. Or was. I think I stopped buying about 2016; but I still love the 70's/80's stuff. DC - not Marvel. 2000AD, AC Comics.

I keep looking at the Crossover Miniatures with a view to creating some heroes.

I've looked at Crossover Miniatures before, but ended up deciding to go with 40mm figures to match with Crisis Protocol figures.

I never could really afford to be a regular comic collector with my other hobby expenses, so I got into reading public domain comics online, as well as getting reprint Phantom magazines, so my tastes are a bit old fashioned.
I tend to like DC heroes more than Marvel, I think I just like heroes with individual origin stories and reasons for their powers more than just saying everyone is a mutant or something.
Plus DC heroes seem more classic and epic to me, but I like both companies.
I don't know much about 2000ad, Judge Dread seems cool though.

I was interested in early British heroes for a time though and converted a 40mm Bizarro figure into The Amazing Mr X.

What rules do you intend to use if you get the Crossover figures, and are you going to convert them into published superheroes or original ones?
