Fingolfin

Hello and 'Mae govannen',

I'm new to the forum and thought I'd introduce myself.

I play 10mm fantasy, or more accurately I'm obsessed with 10mm Middle Earth battles. Anyone else out there a Tolkien-Maniac?

Welcome to the forum, and Mae govannen!

I'm a recent arrival here as well. While I'm not currently working in that particular corner of the hobby (I'm more into other fantasy), I'll be keeping an eye on things from the palantíri. Great to have you with us.

My only claim as regards LOTR, is that I know FAR too much of the BBC radio version, off by heart.
I'll do this later

No, I have a very large orc army, you have a HUGE orc army! (Plus I have Noldor Elves, Dwarves and Men of Arnor).

Welcome Fingolfin. I do historic (15th to 19th) in 10, 15, 20, and 28mm. I do however have a fair size orc army in 10mm which is currently battling the forces of Lyonesse for control of everything west of the River Tamar.

Good evening, Fingolfin.

I think I got Fantasy out of my system in the 1980s. I echo Techno's love of the BBC radio series - Michael Horden and Ian Holm and John le Mesurier. Got me through university!

I'm not a fantasy player, though you can read the antics of my crew on the SF low-tech world of Brenda using modified Traveller RPG and Striker rules. I'm also patiently  :-w , oh so patiently :-w waiting for Pendraken to release some Amazons to partner Athene for the Of Gods and Mortals rule set to go up against Anubis and his jackal headed warriors, or Ares and his centaurs, or Thor and the Valkyries.

But no, I don't do fantasy.

Welcome

Most of my fantasy gaming is more around the GW world - but still in 10mm.

But early last year we played quite a bit of LoTR gaming, my Dwarves were particularly effective at squishing goblins!

Currently I'm using Midgard Heroic Battles, although I think Dragon Rampant would work well for large skirmish games. I've tried various rules systems over the years (including a couple I wrote myself), starting with the old Skytrex Middle Earth Wargames Rules back in the mid-1970s. I think Midgard is the best I've found so far. The FB forum has some interesting First Age scenarios a player has put together.

We used the GW rules - is it War of the Ring - big blue hard back book. Converted to 10mm pretty simply. Used dice for wounds rather than figure removal - but as in the 28mm game figures are on sabot bases, it all seemed to be fine.
