Yeah, I'll admit I was surprised. My preconception was that it was a one-sided formality. Far from it.

WW1 Halflings vs WW2 German Werewolves (literally Germams with Werewolves) vs Cool Blue Meanies.

Hold central ground until another force breaks.
The Germans did, the Blues broke, the Halflings after starting well ended up further back than where they started.

Sounds like an interesting game 

Surely though the Halflings performed as expected....There and Back again?

Pretty well, considering it was our first time using the rules and we are going to  have another go with them.

Umpiring as Sunjester and Last Husaar tried out Void Admiral.
Both players trying to capture data from 3rd parties satellites.
Report soon, but both found our that their fleets had strengths amd weaknesses.

Win for Sunjeste, but it may take him a while to decode, as his shops were very mich in analogue parts mode...

Big Bloody Battle Pea Ridge using Nick's beautiful troops..
Only got though day one.
As Union I was hemorrhaging units, and failing to roll motivation or hits where I needed them, whereas Willuam was on fire with his dice.

@Chrispringle - I caught Confederate Artillery, limbered, in the flank, and it nearly out fought me! Only forced it to retire.  Did we miss something?

What did you hit the artillery with and what other factors applied? If the only factor you had was 3:1 odds, that would be +3 to you on the opposed dice roll. The chance of each different result would be:

4+ or more to you (artillery wiped out): 15/36
1+ or more to you (artillery forced to retire): 15/36
Evens (artillery wiped out, you lose a base): 3/36
-1 to you (you forced back 3", artillery silenced and will have to retire unless in fortifications): 3/36

That's a 50% chance of killing it, 8% of it actually managing a hasty deploy to repel you before it withdraws, 0% chance of it standing its ground.

I don't know what other factors applied in your case, but does that general case sound unreasonable?

Column of three disordered infantry on a follow up attack in their flank!
It was hilariously bad
They had just broken a spent unit, it wasn't as much a pursuit charge, more them walking up to the artillery and a lance corporal politely telling them they "Excuse me, you can't park here!"

Less a case of catching a gun line at a disadvantage, then, but more of stumbling towards an artillery battalion limbered up and poised to respond, which then promptly deploys a battery to discourage the ragged column while the rest of the guns withdraw in an orderly fashion.

No, it doesn't sound as though you missed anything!

A cracking day out at Shrivenham with friends old and new ! One of the best games I've had in years and it literally went down to the last die roll of the game to see who won. you can't ask for better than that!
