We fought Pea Ridge this week. I found it exceptionally enjoyable, both aesthetically (Crispin had made a particularly nice custom battlemat for it) and as a mental exercise (Mark and I found ourselves engaged in really great tense chess match in the woods).

As the Confederates, we pretty much managed to repeat history: advanced and took some objectives early on, but then got beaten by a better-quality Union army. Our right was mostly crushed; our left held on well enough for our artillery to get away and we earned a draw in game terms (even if it was a repeat defeat in historical real-world terms). Tremendous good fun.
