Hi,

Can someone help me with Modern Spearhead?

What effect does smoke have on Thermal imaging?

Thanks.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

I have a bit more time these days so I will try to answer, though its been a while since we played so bear with me.

Page 24 Section 8.5.5 of the original rules states that

Smoke blocks spotting (and all direct fire attacks passing through it) for all units except those equippeed with Thermal Imaging equipment (noted as "TI" equipped on the data cards). ATGW's can never fire through smoke even if equipped with TI sights.

This is adjusted by various later errata/interpretations as follows:

from the MSH main rules errata Version 1.00:
Chemical smoke rounds are identical to Smoke rounds except that they block Spotting even for Platoons equipped with TI night vision equipment. Chemical Smoke is available to Soviet artillery from 1980, U.S. artillery from 1988, and other NATO artillery from 1990. Warpac and Others do not have Chemical Smoke unless specified.

Modern Spearhead – Official Clarifications – Version 1.00
Units equipped with TI Night Vision can see through conventional smoke. However ATGW and AA Missile weapons can never be fired through, in, out of, or into smoke regardless. Other direct and indirect fire and aircraft weapons may fire in, out, or through conventional smoke if equipped with TI or if a pre-planned mission aimed at a terrain feature or similar.

8.5.6 Chemical Smoke
No direct or indirect fire or aircraft weapons of any type can ever be fired through, in, out of, or into chemical smoke – Except indirect weapons firing pre-planned missions aimed at a terrain feature or similar.

Hope that helps LH.

Thanks. I haven't seen the "chemical smoke" bit before.

It does confirm my reading, and even if I'd dropped smoke #1 son would still have got all the kills, except I wouldn't be able to shoot back!
