I really like the minimalist graphic design of the SCW Libertad! supplement. Well, imagine my surprise when crawling the interwebs to find info on various tips on painting anarchist and republican forces when I came across who the dashing young miliciana actually is: she's María Ginestà Coloma, who was 17 when the photo was taken and died age 94 in Paris. It's a really cool image and I liked what our graphic designer did with it.  Here she is many years later:

Great photos - both really evoke the pride and the passion of the war  :)

The picture was taken by Juan Guzman.  Guzman was a self taught photographer who fled Nazi Germany and, with Robert Capa, Gerda Taro and David Seymour, became one of the best known photojournalists covering the Spanish Civil War.  The subject, Marina Ginestà Coloma, who was a member of the Communist Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia, was taken at the Hotel Colon in Barcelona in 1936 when she was working as a reporter.  A militia recruiting office was located in the hotel and although she's in uniform the photograph was posed, as she was never in the militia or the Popular Army.  It is, nevertheless, one of the iconic images of the Spanish Civil War and captures the moment perfectly.

I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

It certainly has a period feel.

Though some might consider it a bit dotty?

It was a double tap.  I'd delete it if I knew how to.

Do you want me to delete it, John ?

You've probably missed being able to do it yourself...that facility used to only last half an hour from the original posting.

I'm guessing it's still the same nowadays.

Cheers - Phil. (I'd better wait 'til I'm on the PC..If I try and do it on the tablet, I'll probably delete the whole thread....Or worse !) :D

I'll do this later
