WWI Russians - Cossacks

Made more progress with this force - Cossacks both mounted and on foot. Went with a dark grey coat, mainly to look different to the mass of khaki. Thought it looked OK on a test figure but overall maybe it's a bit dark?





Does anyone know what the commander figure (from the RJR29 senior command pack) is holding, looks like a baton of some kind?

Painted totals for 2023 to  368 figures : 56 cavalry : 6 vehicles : 2 guns

I think I will want to add another pack of mounted Cossacks, as well as a couple of packs of standard cavalry - feels right to have lots of cavalry for a Russian army!

Thanks. As to the object - not sure it looks most like a mace, definitely not a sword.

I suppose ultimately I'm trying to work out what colour to paint it.

my thoughts are it's a mace, here's a picture of the Ataman of the Don Cossacks (Pyotr Krasnov) with mace

I think it's a mace too.

It could well be a mace - if I was to describe what it looks like, it would be a can on beans on a stick! A bit like a larger version of a German stick grenade. 

I think I'll go for black with some gold highlights. Then it could be a mace, could be a telescope, could be a baton!

WWI Russians - part 5

Got the last part of my initial order finished over the weekend, another battalion of infantry and various support items.



4th Infantry Battalion


Went for a slightly more green tone for these uniforms

Support Weapons and Command


Mortars, MGs on carriages and extra command options - standard bearers without flags for now - will likely get RCW ones at some point in the future.

Artillery and Armoured Cars



Three 76mm guns along with a couple of dual turreted armoured cars.

This added 80 infantry, 6 guns and 2 vehicles to the totals.

Painted totals for 2023 to  448 figures : 56 cavalry : 8 vehicles : 8 guns

I've also ordered a good chunk more cavalry to round out this army[/size].
