Montrose's High Tide - The battle of Kilsyth 15 August 1645

After doing quite a bit of work on the scenario over the last few weeks we played a refight of my take on the Battle of Kilsyth over two recent Saturday nights using my Pendraken 10mm Scots.

Good AAR.     Of extra interest for me, was that I used to drive past the battlefield when I worked in Stirling but, although always meaning to stop one day and try to imagine how the battle ensued, never did because I was too knackered and just wanted to get home(!)

I'm about as far away from the site of the actual battle that you can get but from this blog:

It looks like its a fairly serious cross country walk if you want to see the actual battlefield terrain, so I'm not surprised you never had the time to have look after working all day.

Still, there appears to be a pub in Banton village if you feel the need to have a drink after roaming the battlefield

Thanks for the interesting link, Peter. I used to take the Kilsyth-Stirling road (see map within the link) and, unless I wanted to end up in one of the fields, all I could do was glance over each time I drove past. There's certainly a lot more to see up there than I thought!

Thanks for an interesting scenario and game, that was a lot closer than the final victory medals indicate

There were some tough decisions for the Royalists to make and we managed to draw well enough for most of them to come off

When the Covenanters had opportunities, the chits were not in their favour

Late to the party as usual. Good write-up Peter. The outcome approximated the 1645 outcome and was an enjoyable read besides. The Kilsyth scenario is shaping up nicely. Baille being carried from the field wounded can be added to his long list of written complaints to the Scottish Parliament.😀

Thanks Fred, we are on our 6th iteration of Celtic Fringe rules extension, but as Peter says, it is not substantial different than the down-load from my old blog.

I continue to watch the development of this variant with interest and awe!  I still haven't worked out how to represent the Swedish Brigade and the Imperial Tercios from Lutzen without changing the ground scale!
