Italian unification

Any thoughts on rules for the wars of italian unification? I considered fire and fury but my old fingers demand largish bases sizes.

I would recommend any Fire & Fury derivative - if small bases are a problem just do double width ones representing two stands, use a marker when one stand is lost, remove one base when two stands are lost.

For the bigger battles (Magenta, Solferino) Bloody Big Battles is good. Optimally it is designed for 1" wide (and reasonably square) stands and on this basis is designed for a 6' x 4' table.

Bloody Big Battles or Bruce Weigel's 1859 rules* spring to mind.

p.s. Field of Battle 3 might also be an option but probably more suited to smaller actions.

You did not say if you were interested in the First or Second Risorgimento. For the 2nd Palestro, Montebello and Malignano are relatively small and would be suitable for smaller scale actions. '1859' rules are worth buying for the information and OOBs alone. There is now a fast play version.
