More painting for Tom
Need to know what colour the pole is on French (Royal, pre revolutionary, 7YW) infantry standards/flags?

Thanks
Will

Like all simple questions, the answer is complicated. My best source is Pierre Charrie's 'Drapeaux et Etendards du Roi'. Roughly translating what he says on page 53, they were most often painted blue or the main colour of the fabric of the flag. Some regiments seem to have had white poles for their Colonel's flags, and Regiment Steiner had a red pole for its ordinance flags. The Guard regiments seem to have had poles wrapped in crimson ribbons of silk! Hope this is of some help!  The Kronoskaf SYW site is also a great place to start your research for any SYW army.
