Hullo,
Going down the memory lane I came across a memory of an email zine / discussion list called "eHoplite" from around 1990 or late 80s. Anyone remember that?
Or rec.games.miniatures newsgroup discussions?
Cheers,
Aksu

I do remember rec.games.miniatures from Usenet.
Ahh the days before browsers, or pictures, when the internet was for text and serious academia.. (and wargames).

In fact my friend, mentioned in "To the last gaiter button" discussion, and I first made contact through rec.games.miniatures.

I certainly remember rec.games.miniatures for  ...

  • some good people on there

  • my first flame war

  • the [Tag] Nazis

  • splitting into .warhammer and .historical

I was gutted when it closed

Newsgroups, Academia and Wargaming :) that reminds me. When I did my MA degree in new media about online communities and their power structures, I actually used some of my usenet experiences as source material :D That was a long time ago, I still have the overhead slides I used to present the findings somewhere :D
