Has anyone looked at wargaming either of the above? If so which Pendraken figures (if any) could be used?

Bloody Big Battles is certainly your first port of call, both for rules and for scenarios. Figure wise I can't remember off the top of my head, but the Schleswig-Holstein, ACW and Italian Wars of Unification ranges are a good starting point. Note that I'm not too fussy about exact matches as when at arms length, as long as they look fine they pass muster for me!

Hi Chad,

As Lord Kermit and Steve kindly note, I've done BBB scenarios for the 15 biggest battles of Hungary '48. Currently fighting our way through them all as a final playtest before turning them into a campaign book. Meanwhile you can find drafts of most of them in the files of the BBB group:

Tons of after-action reports on my BBBBlog:
http://bloodybigbattles.blogspot.com/

We have fought a lot of them with Dave Whaley's Pendraken armies, but I couldn't tell you which figures he used.

If you're interested in the war, I hope you know about my book on it:

Happy gaming!

Purchased the book this week hence the enquiry. It would be useful if you could find out which figures were used.

Appreciated, thanks, Chad. I've put the question to Dave and will let you know what he says.

Thought I'd be helpful and suggest an Osprey title to help identify figures for use, but unfortunately their website is a rat maze.

Have the Ospreys for the 1st Risorgimento. Looking more for the Hungarian Revolution

This is the best (only?) book I've found so far on the revolution. Plenty of good information and some illustrations on uniforms etc to allow you to make an informed choice as to what figures might be of use.

Good find Steve. I found the similar volume on the First Schleswig War 1848 to be a goldmine of information on organising and uniforming my armies.

Dave says:
"So long ago I cannot be sure.
Later I will get the box out and see what I can identify.
I do know I mixed lots of different ranges up."

Meanwhile, in case it helps, here's my 6mm army (all proxies), which might give you some ideas:

Update from Dave:
"I think I used the following.
1860s Austrian artillery, some Hussars and heavy cav plus Grenzer and commanders.
1860s Hanoverian cav, some infantry.
1849 Italians infantry
1859 Italians infantry
League of Augsburg scythmen!!!!
Schleswig Holstein Danish hussars
1809 Austrian grenadiers and grenzer"

He also said he used WWI Poles for the Polish Legion - very creative!
