Have I got this right ?

Adobe are shutting down the 'free' program from the 31st Dec ?
Any recommended free alternatives ?

Cheers - Phil. :)

Flash has been getting phased out for a long time. It was riddled with insecurities and mostly obsolete technology, so nothing really uses it anymore. Doubt you'll notice its passing unless you were using it specifically for something? All video etc have been natively supported by HTML for a while now so no issues there.

Thanks for the info!

Was wondering the same thing as my computer keeps asking me to delete it.

You understood that, Ray ?

I frigging didn't. ;D ;D ;D

I'll just demand that people (Leon et al  ;)) send me jpegs. embedded in emails, so I can transfer them to the tablet.  :P

In ye olde days of the internet anytime someone wanted to include something like a video or fancy animation in a website they needed the person viewing it to download special software on their pc to view it, e.g. Flash Player.

However, web technology has now moved on that it no longer needs that. Your browser (e.g. Firefox) can run videos and animations without any additional special software. It's "baked in" to the language of the webpage and the browser you use to view it.

So really it's unlikely Flash has done anything for you in years. When you watch a video in YouTube for instance, it's just the website and browser playing it, no additional software required.

Would only be if you were using quite old websites that hadn't updated in many years, but they'll have to update or shut down. I can't remember the last time I encountered a site that still used Flash.

Not really.  :D

But I can't ever remember an application asking to be deleted. The general gist, I believe, is to go ahead.  ;)

Hey, ho....If I can use it to do what I want....I'll continue to use a twenty year old Ap.

It's what I use to play with piccies I send to Leon.

Cheers - Phil  ;)

fred.

I really don't think it is Phil

Adobe Flash Player (as said above) lets you play videos and some basic games on websites. It's dead old

Adobe Acrobat Reader - mainly lets you read PDF docs, but can be used for a bit of basic image editing. This is current software, but is very different to the one above.

Adobe is the company name, so by itself is a bit too generic to tell us quite what you are doing.

Thanks, Forbes. :)

I don't 'do' games or videos......I use a very ancient app to mess around with piccies that I send to Leon...and 'whoever '.

The only game (games) I ever DO play are around 12 or more years old......But they still work.

Cheers - Phil :)

Adobe make a lot of other software like Photoshop. Would be surprised if they used Flash but could be a really old web based one...

What's the application you use called and I'm sure there's plenty of alternative ones. GIMP for instance is a nice replacement for Photoshop but probably more than you need.

Adobe Spark, which I think is free, is a photo editor that may be more what you need.

Flash is like using an old knackered gee gee to pull a carriage to the market town along a poorly maintained road well known for highwaymen and bandits, when you could just hop in a car to drive round to the shop...

Which is why they're closing that road.

remember Techno is from Wales so he wont understand what a "car" is  ;D
a better analogy for our Techno phobia friend would be a bullock pulling an old cart along the poorly maintained road. when you could hitch up a horse and go there at a trot.
