Today, 28th of August is the day that the siege of Groningen was lifted in 1672. This day is still celebrated. Many years ago a diorama was made by members of the gaming club in Groningen, called Rabenhaupt (after the commander during the siege). And now it's back and can be seen again. And hopefully it will find it's way into a museum too. As a member of the gaming club, I worked on the diorama, and also on bringing it to a state where it can be displayed again.

This is a short video about it. Some facts: it is about 3x3 meters, and has ca 1200 figures, in 15mm scale.

Wow, that's pretty damned special 8). I love the details such as the person woken up in bed as the roof collapses around them. Well done to all involved and a lovely setting in which to see the diorama.

And that scene, like everything is based on actual events too...

Very nice! My wife lived there for a bit at one point. Apparently it looks different now. Less explosions.  ;D

As Steve says, "Wow".

That definitely is rather special.

Some pictures, as everyone likes pictures.

Note, the ground scale is 1:200. If it had been actual figure scale (about 1:100) it would have to be four times the size (6 x 6 metre)!

Thanks as was hard to make out the details on the video. Spectacular!

Fine bit of sapping there.

Anybody visiting Groningen, I'd recommend a trip up the tower of that church.
Superb views on a clear day, across the city markets and beyond.

Thanks for the pictures :).

That is great, well done to all involved.

Since this year marks the 350th anniversary of the siege, the local museum has a dedicated exhibition on this event until october. The diorama has a (well deserved) central spot in it. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
