Russian musketeers received their first felt shako, called a 'shapki' in 1803.  An improved type was authorised for musketeers and grenadiers 1805.  In 1807 it received leather reinforcements around the top and at the sides, and a new name - the 'kiver'.  The characteristic shako with the concave top, authorised in 1812 was also called a 'kiver'.  I have seen it said that 'flash to bang' for these new pieces of kit was at about a year.

There is also the matter of knapsacks.  The cylindrical one was replaced by a square one in 1808 so there would be a need for three different Russian infantry figures to cover the major campaigns of the period.

Ignore us !  That's rude, I was only correcting my fellow forumite  (not sure this is a word and its a bit too close to catamite for my liking)forum member, who seemed to have read Davids surname incorrectly
