Good grief.

I met him when he wandered into the sports shop I was working in, after leaving school......Early seventies ?

"You haven't got a ciggy, have you ?" , said he.

(I didn't smoke in those days....that was to come.....and go.....But it ruined an illusion.....John Noakes ?.....A smoker ?  :o :o :o)

Cheers - Phil

Oh my Lord :o! Just heard the news on the radio :(. So many happy memories of, to my mind, the classic Blue Peter line up of John Noakes, Valerie Singleton and Peter Purves.

Poggle

So sad to learn of John Noakes' passing. I was thinking of him the other day, remembering the classic Blue Peter days and wondering how he was doing. 😔

Techno

Saw that clip on the news last night of him climbing 'Nelson's column'. (Which I'd forgotten about.)
Made me wince....He didn't appear to have a safety harness on.  :o :o :o :o

Cheers - Phil

The man was my hero.

Much better than that stuck up Mr La-di-da Peter Purves.

I don't think he did have safety harness on when he was up Nelson's Column.

I remember him doing the jump with the Red Devils.

And the bobsleigh.

And the elephant.

Like I say, he was my hero.

Didn't he also climb a ships mast right to the top to be the 'button boy', if that's the correct terminology?

DanJ

Another childhood hero passes.

QuoteI don't think he did have safety harness on when he was up Nelson's Column

No, classis Blue Peter was filmed in the olden days before Health and Safety was invented.
