As a BSc Hons in Applied Statistics may I put the other case, as expounded by Andrew Lang (Scottish poet, philospher and critic)?  "He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp posts—for support rather than illumination."


Though my mother was impressed by my father's ability to quote statistcs until she heard him telling a friend "if you just make it a point something percentage, then it's credible."

This is of course correct 85.2% of the time.

I read last night that he holds the singular 'award' for being the only actor to have been killed by an Alien, A Terminator and a Predator.

(Though I have to admit, off the top of my head, I can only remember his part in Alien.)
