Don't play any of them. Do play post-Roman Britain, but not Arthurian legend, so no green knights, dopey maidens always sewing, but lots of big hairy Saxons causing mayhem.

Ah, the "Life of Brian" approach to wargaming. I am depressed, as ever, to find that a shared interest in collecting, painting and gaming with miniatures, of whatever sort, is not enough to form a common bond.

That said, I wish you all the best with the club. May it flourish and prosper!

When I was a kid, and playing outside was still seen as an essential part of finding your feet, cowboys and Indians, Rob Roy and Redcoats, Knights, Romans etc. all went down a storm. WW2 didn't get much of a look in (apart from Spitfires and Messerschmidts in the playground) and only girls played with faeries, pixies and goblins. I did try fantasy and WWII and it just did not grip me. If it's what floats your boat good luck to you, but if you're not in the least bit interested it must be quite pleasant to game somewhere where you're not surrounded by Quargs from Blotmass or Snotgrovellers of the Night with their overhyped prose.

Having said that, Citadel did produce some marvellous Italian Wars figures, not to mention a lovely range of medieval Bretons.

In my primary school days it was Japs and Commandos, Cowboys and Indians or Robin Hood versus the Sherriff. The girls were too busy with skipping and hopscotch to bother with pixies and fairies

In my primary school, the movie, Zulu, caught everyone's imagination - so much that a small handful of us played the Brits and the rest of the school (yes, the rest of the school!) were the Zulus. I have a vivid memory of us valiant Brits standing with our pretend rifles behind a small wall which bordered a covered walkway, then hearing the chant, "Zulu! Zulu! Zulu!" before what seemed like the whole school appearing round the corner of the playground (with their pretend spears and shields), forming up and charging! I don't know what the teachers made of it all but we had great fun.  

The girls were too busy getting out of the way.
