Figure comparison

I took some photos this afternoon of some WW1 figures and an ACW figure for a friend of mine who is intending to get into 10mm early WWI German. He was asking for information about the compatibility of figures, so I said I would email him a couple of pictures. Low and behold my email won't accept them as an attachment, then I thought, well forum members may find this interesting as well, so I'll post them here and let him know where to look.



This first picture shows (L to R) the Pendraken German field gun and crew, two Irregular Belgian infantry, Irregular Belgian infantry officer, Van Dykk Belgian infantry (sold as 1/144 scale) and a Kallistra Confederate infantryman - he's a particularly big lad.



This second picture, again L to R, shows the Pendraken dismounted German hussars, officer and troopers, and a mounted hussar, the Van Dykk Belgian infantryman again and the Irregular Belgian howitzer and crew.

Thought this might be useful for those who like to mix it up a bit.

That's an interesting shot, the 1:144th Van Dyke figure looks similarly sized to ours, which is great for those wanting some variety.

That is interesting I expected the van dyke ones to be quit a bit bigger.

This has been a great find for me Leon. Now I want some of your Belgians to expand my army, plus more Germans and British bluecoats. Expect an order for Warfare.

The Kallistra figure in the top piccy, looks to almost be a 15mm model.

Indeed; their figures seem to be increasing in  both size and bulk. I reckon that one to be about 14mm. Some of their earlier late medievals I have just about been able to use, but the later figures are too big house with 10s and too small to use with 15s.

I thought Kallistra's were effectively 12mm?

Most of their fantasy range is modified from Pendraken's sculpts and their historical figures are scaled to match.

Yeah !....Sounds right, Meirion.

Looking at the piccy again....The Van Dykk figure is probably a little small to be 10mm to the eyes, which would make the Kallistra around 12-13 to the eyes....at a guess.

Was just looking at their site, and those Belgians are lovely. Sadly (fortunately?) I'm not gaming the period, so no need to suffer the Euro-Pound exchange rate debacle!

Also, Kallistra - they're supposedly 12mm, like the old big fantasy range that's common between Pendraken as well? But I'm guessing they've had a bit of "scale creep" from what Andy says and from what I've seen at shows - they always look a bit hefty.

I do think some of the kallistra stuff is a lot bigger than others. I've got some of their Eastern European cavalry and while it's a bit big it fits in fine. But I got some of their Saxons and they are huge.

That ACW chap looks to be on that end of the size scale.

I'm not much of a foot to eye fan. I measure from top of base to wherever the head ends. Most of the Pendraken stuff comes out at 11-12mm, the Van Dykk is 12mm and the ACW Kallistra figure is almost 15mm. Incidentally, in my previous post, before auto carrot got hold of it, it should have read for use, not for house.

Just for variety, because I've actually enough Pendraken lead to keep me busy for a while, could you post a link to Van Dykk? Google searches just go silly.😎

I think you may be having difficulties because of the spelling. I believe it Is van dyck miniatures.

Thanks for the photos Leman - very helpful as I am in the middle of setting up 10/12mm 1914 Belgians as already have 10mm PM Germans and BEF.

I am portraying the Cavalry Division as present at Halen along with 4th Mixed Brigade - a fair sized force for ITLSU rules but its a long term project.

Using PM for all cavalry/artillery and command figures (order is coming your way soon Leon ) , Van Dyke for infantry (since they are in "pre-Yser" uniforms as worn at the outbreak of war) and MM for MG's as they do very nice dog cart models (already have these thanks to Paul's eariler big DBA order).

All three suppliers are very helpful and great to deal with even if they are on the other side of the world.

Setting the scene for the Belgians with a "what if" ITLSU game that we started last night set during the retreat to the Yser where troops from British IV Corps where landed at Ostend in order to help cover the retreat of the Belgians. Got to the point where my Jager battalion is poised to attack the main objective - a village held by 3 companies of a BEF battalion, which has so far shot up any German units coming near the place.  We get to see how the 6 companies of Jagers, with Artlliery, HMG (and Cyclists   support)  get on next session
