Hello first time posting after a long time lurking looking at the pretty pictures! I'm about to take the plunge and do the 1859, 1866 and 1870 wars in 10mm my first army will be the austrians and I was wondering if anybody has information on the nationalities of the Austrian jager battalions, all cavalry regiments and (I know I want it all!) The artillery? I have the osprey books but they don't tell you a great deal in terms of recruitment areas.
Thanks

Welcome on board. The Bruce Weigle rules are full of info, but I'm not sure if they have the level of detail you're after. I'll try and dig them out later to check.

Leman

Welcome aboard; not sure why you need that level of detail. I've happily war-gamed this period for many years now without it and simply use OOBs to put armies together. Are you looking at some sort of semi-fantasy xenophobic rivalry between the various groups that made up the empire. I know it took me about 40 years to work out that Ruthenians were sort of Ukrainians living within the empire.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
@fsn your welcome! I think?!
@Steve j thanks I keep meaning to buy that set of books.
@leman no nothing like that it's just I found all the information for austro-hungarian army at the outbreak of ww1 and wondered if it was available for 1858/66 campaigns. I hope to be be able to represent every regiment and battery if I stick at this project!

Steve J

FYI Adam, Bruce will be at Colours this year putting on an 1871 game. Well worth a visit if you are able too and you can pick up the books at the show as well.

This should get you started, contents include the OOBs, also if you scroll further down you'll find the recruiting areas for the line infantry; some units eg Jaegers were of mixed ethnicity, no data on this site about Jaegers or cavalry. From memory the cuirassiers were 'German' and the Hussars were Hungarian, not sure about the others so I would need to check and get back to you but its a fair bet that some of the lancers were Poles!
Don't buy your daughters a pony, buy them heroin instead, its cheaper and ultimately less addictive.
