Thanks chaps. It's good to be back painting units rather than individual figures.

Some more different stuff worked on this week

Spiders

These are the new ones - and they are a big improvement on the old ones, and they are big too, a good 25mm across the base.
Not totally sure what colour to go with these, grey, brown, something else?

Artillery Bits

Some Gabions, and some markers for Reload, made from the ECW artillery accessories set (which is very useful for all early horse & musket era armies)

Centaur Archers

Lots of centaur archers, a mix of the new poses and some of the older ones too.
These are about 2/3rds done, a highlight on the flesh to do, and then various detailing.

I'm quite impressed with these photos as they are handheld under the normal desk lamp using my new iPhone, they seem a lot better than ones taken with older iDevices

Lovely work, Fred.

Spiders ?....Try Googling red knee tarantula....There are some nice variants in the images.
(The body is supposed to be based on a tarantula.....With the head of a wolf spider......Don't ask which species....I can't remember  :D)

Cheers - Phil

More work on the Centaur Archers

I think these are pretty much there now, apart from the basing.

Had to make up a new batch of magic wash tonight, with a new version of Pledge. Will be interested to see how this turns out, as the pledge is milky not clear, and has quite a strong smell to it.

These figures are the first full scale test.

Centaur Archers

Bases painted brown - but looks rather patchy now its dried so will need some touching up.  The new magic wash seems to have worked OK, added a bit of depth to the browns.

Wasn't brave enough to try the red knees on the spider, so went with Warmonger Zweihanders - just blocked in black, mainly as a base coat for metal

Quite like the monochrome look of this photo

Looking good, the spiders are nice, I painted some black with yellow strips and the results was good. You should try.

Zweihanders are nice figures.

Fred, can I ask you what games do you play ?

fred.

I am liking the red knee paint scheme Phil suggested, I just need to work out how to execute it. But yellow stripes could work too. All 3 don't have to be the same.

Games - main fantasy game is a home brewed set of rules - which is a mash up of Warmaster, Kings of War and probably several other systems. Which our group is enjoying. It's finally getting to a degree of completion after about 18mts of tinkering. But also play other stuff, some Warband recently, which I have enjoyed as it is a very different feel of game. BKC is back on the table as a recently returned member of our group is very in to WWII.

Also 28mm skirmish stuff like Frostgrave, IHMN, and Saga.
Also trying to get in more games of Great War Spearhead for WWI
We were playing some chain of command,  but that seems to have fallen by the wayside a bit.
At the start of the year we were playing loads of Epic for several months.

Really too many systems and not enough time to play them.
What I need is some sort of wargaming grant to allow me to spend more time gaming and less time working.

I think that you've got a lot of options with the Red Knee type(s), Forbes.  :).

Looking forward to seeing what you can do......It'll be zippy.... I know it will.
Cheers - Phil

Zweihanders

Brown on bases, and oily steel on weapons and armour

Centaur Archers

filled in most of the missing gaps in the brown on the bases, painted the rocks and dry brushed - now just need some flock. These are looking better now - the visual impact of a little detailing on the base is good.
