Title: (Brian Blessed voice) Harwood's alive!
Post by: nikharwood on 10 October 2013, 05:41:16 PM
Yes, indeed - any rumours of my demise are exaggerated. Sorry 'bout that   ;)

We've moved house - crazy, crazy stuff - got confirmation of completion with 2 days notice so it was totally manic...vastly overrated experience if you ask me.

Anyway, it means that we're now living in the middle of nowhere - in a holiday cottage on Exmoor, which is beautiful but it does mean that I have no landline, mobile signal or internet which is leaving me disconnected. It was great for the first week (last week) but this week I've been twitching a bit...and work is bonkers at the moment so I haven't even been able to get on here courtesy of my employers.

So - expect sporadic posting from me for the next 2-3 months...and try to behave, natch.  :D

And very glad I am to hear it too! Thought the Totty thread had been somewhat neglected of late :D

Take care of yourself buddy and see you 'back in the bin*' very soon.

Good to hear everything got sorted out OK!  We'll hold the fort until you get some interwebs sorted, I'll do some Totty research tonight.

Actually, I've just Google'd 'Naked on the Moors' and it didn't come back with anything... useful, shall we say...

Nice to see you back Mr Harwood.

The big news is that there's still no Centurion, but I think Pendraken could be described as "dilated".

Hi Nik

Glad the move went ok.  Think of all the painting you can do without the distraction of the forum.   Thats with a roller and bucket of emulsion though  ;D

Nik - a-ah - painter of the universe
Flash - a-ah - he'll paint every one of us
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Nik - a-ah - he's a miracle
Nik - a-ah - king of a bit of Somerset

Paints faster than everyone of us
Paintes better than everyone of us
He'll buy a lot of figures
Every man, every cannon
Every horse – painted in a flash

Nik - a-ah
Nik - a-ah - he'll save everyone of us

Just a man
With a lot of 10 mil
He knows nothing but the lead
But he can never stop
Has a 15 – nought brush
for all their eyes
Oh oh - oh oh
Nik

Don't think he's likely to be back this weekend.
Sounds like the weather's going to be as awful for him as it's destined to be here.....Lovely. :( :( :( :(

Like it lots  :D

Just grabbing some internet whilst the kids play in one of those mad places with slides etc...so particularly appropriate to be feeding the Totty thread from here...

Phil's right though - major storm on way which will cause chaos on higher ground (like the top of Exmoor where I am) & probably take the present Mrs H out of action for the next 48 hours as she'll be coordinating the response from Highways gangs & tree chaps clearing the debris etc.

So, I see a few drinks, some DVDs and some painting...not got any 10mm prepped at the moment that aren't in storage, but those 28mm WW2 might get some paint lobbed at  them later  8)

Just preparing to batten down the hatches here.
Hopefully it won't be half as bad as the media are suggesting...But you never know, do you ? :-SS :-SS

Still only forecasting 25mph here, although the wind is picking up. Meant to peak in the early hours of the morning.

Appears as though the real 'poop' is going to be South of us now.....Whereas before, we were supposed to be bang in the middle of it.
Fingers crossed...and good luck to those that get the worst.

Compared what we've had here over the last 10 days or so...last night could only described as mildly unpleasant.
It rained...But no-where near as much as it often does.....And I didn't hear the wind howling once. (Believe me....you DO hear it when it does !)
Haven't checked outside yet...But I'd be surprised if there were even any very small branches down.

From what I've heard on the news this morning the awful stuff was (and is) well South and looping around us.
Hope Nik's OK....and it sounds as though Ray's getting a bit of a battering at the moment...
Good luck to them...and to everyone else in the firing line.

Take care. Cheers - Phil.

Yep, nothing really here other than a spell of torrential rain and strong, gusting winds for around 15 minutes at 5.00am. Had far worse normal storms than the supposed 10 year storm of last night.

Good to hear all is well. Here in the North West I was more disturbed by the Cat yowling at 3am than I was by any eatherrelated phenomonon.

However, this did involve some clearing up in the morning, as he yowled until he puked.  >:( again.  >:(

Had to drive all around the houses this morning just to get the other half to a functioning tube-line so that she could get in to work. Some fairly frequent falls of timber around here. Railways used it as an excuse to stay in bed.

For Pete's sake, Nik, what are you doing all the way up there? There are pretty houses and there are comfortable houses but there are precious few comfortable pretty houses. If it's more than a ten minute walk to the nearest pub pull up the drawbridge - you're in the barbarian zone.

Afternoon, chaps  :)

I've (finally) managed to establish a decent i'net connection here, so I'll try to catch up with all the forum shenanigans that I've missed in the last couple of months  :(

We're still in our (lovely holiday) home while work progresses (tortuously slowly) on the farmhouse - it's getting there, but the more we knock about, the more we find needs doing...it'll be great once we're done though  :)

Hope you all had a great festive period & are making progress on your 2014 to-do lists; I've only managed to paint a platoon each of 28mm WW2 Panzer Grenadiers & US Airborne, but am starting to plan this year's 10mm madness. Got to go do more work on the house this PM, but hopefully will catch up a few posts later - especially my favourite one...which I see has been taken in a different, larger, direction.... :-\ ;)

In other news, I'm also about to finish my current employment at the end of this month and am moving on to my next adventure - will keep you posted on that as well  8)

I'm out now to limb a few trees that need sorting (rain & chainsaws in elevated positions = fun) so if  I get a chance later, I'll make some long-awaited contributions to my favourite thread  <)

Well, now then...after a heads-up from Techno, I find myself usurped by that disreputable fella Mad Lemmey as the second-highest-poster on this forum. I'll never live it down...

Anyway, thought a (very quick) update might be in order - still no home internet (long, long tale of line of sight, trees, Exmoor National Park Authority, relatives and other assorted contributing conspiring factors), and with work hectic, manic, all-encompassing (but brilliant, superb and fulfilling) I find my play-time has been seriously compromised, including, of course, my ability to post here  :(

I was hoping for a quiet(isn) couple of hours this afternoon at work to catch up - but that hasn't happened & I'm on my way to another meeting in 5 mins...so I just thought I'd say a quick hi & hope to be back soon (even if it means staying even later at work in order to wade through the huge amount of unread posts and try to catch up with all things Pendraken).

On the gaming front, I've not thrown a die in anger for months - but at least all my stuff is now out of the storage unit. It's in a room with no ceiling that needs a new floor, a replacement window and some electric. But at least it's out of storage.

Oh - and the body count has adjusted slightly: still 3 kids, 2 dogs, 1 wife but we're down to 5 horse (poor Nala, she's missed - especially by Daisy, 11  :( ), but have acquired another couple of cats. And a few friendly deer.

Be good. And if you can't be good, be careful  ;) ;D

Well, this lack of Internet at home is wearing thin now....I'm going to try to grab a 15 min lunch break at work to keep on top of forum madness...

We also lost another pony at the weekend - this was my eldest daughter's first one (Scuddy) who was with us for 12 years - he was 32 when his time came. Needless to say, having had him since she was 5, Tash is distraught. Goes with the territory though - and he's buried with Nala.

I suspect we'll get a replacement soon enough - apparently six horses is the requirement nowadays  ;)

Cheaper ?
£3.99 for a snap trap, which doesn't need feeding, or taking to the vets.
It won't get splattered on the road.....You don't feel sad when it reaches the end of its 'life....It doesn't sharpen its claws on the furniture, or pee on/in electrical equipment.
......And it doesn't need a cat tray, when its too lazy to go outside.

Had more than enough cats to last this lifetime.  ;)

There's a ghastly local rat-trap which literally glues them to a bit adhesive pad to starve to death. Without liking the creatures, that's not a fate I'd wish on an ISIS commander.

Morning all

A quick update from me based on Real Life...

I've now separated from my wife and am living back in Dunster (temporarily while I get something more permanent sorted); everything is fine and amicable and we're getting on better now than we have done in the last few years. The kids are cool too - they describe everything as 'peaceful' now which is coolio  8)

Daughter #1 is now 18, driving and off to Uni in September
Daughter #2 is now 13 going on 21
Son #1 is now 9, 10 in July

So a fair bit of turmoil and much sorting-out to do (especially of my wargames stuff - might well lead to a bit of selling / consolidation as I won't have the same amount of space available). I'm steadily adjusting to a pattern of having kids / not having kids and work remains as incessantly bonkers as ever.

On a more positive note, I've now got internet access again, and have negotiated the childcare rota so that I don't have them on a Tuesday night when the Minehead crew meet - so I'm getting some gaming in. Every cloud & all that...

:)

What ho, forumites :)

So, suddenly it's February 2017 and I've been notable by my absence (again). Sorry 'bout that - hope you've all been (mis)behaving appropriately ;)

Anyway - I'm still knocking around - just *stupidly* busy with work and a hectic personal life which is awesome - but means that I'm dividing my time between West Somerset (when I have my kids 50% of the time) and Dorset (when I don't). Still getting the occasional game in with the Minehead crew and have been sporadically painting - just about to make a start on my Warband Undead (Tomb Kings) along with a load of 28mm stuff that's been taunting me for too long...

I'll *try* to catch up with everything that you've all been up to in the past few months in the next few days... 8)

Aloha all - just to say that I'm *hoping* to find a bit more time to reconnect with all you lovely people ;)

And I'm tempted to (shock, horror) to pay *stupid* Photobucket for the upgrade that they want so that all my ancient pics show up again... will think more on that.

In gaming-related news, just ordered some WW1 early war stuff just because (and I need to re-learn painting 10mm) and working on (finally #FFS) AWI lists.

In the void between here & my last forum activity, I've been distracted by life, work, love, kids, 28mm, 1/3000, 2mm, 3mm, D&D, Numenera / Cypher system, GW, Carnevale and other assorted nonsense. For which I'm not even slightly apologetic.

I hope you lot have been (mis)behaving yourselves to Leon's content :D
