Just filled it in. Really should copy and paste year on year as answers change not at all.

I admit my answers haven't changed much though my estimated 2022 spend may be down a bit on last year.

Never quite sure what this survey achieves.  Only being able to enter three periods you play is daft.  I play 7 on a regular basis.  Similarly you only get to state three periods you never play.  There are plenty more than that on the list.  I also have no idea how much I will spend this coming year - it will be what it is.  How such a skewed sample can be useful is unclear.

The limit to 3 things is pretty annoying, particularly when a lot of the options are so specific. Seems unnecessary as those who are just super focused on one or two periods will just select those anyway while perhaps disguising the fact that there are those with much broader interests. Or they should at least have the ability so select broader categories, like "All of history" since they have fairly generic sci fi and fantasy ones and that could cover a huge range of things even apart from the GW stuff.

Yes, in the final, "anything you want to add?" box I fessed up to the answers largely being fiction because of the stupid limitations.

It's tosh ... but interesting tosh so I do it every year.

Absolutely.  I left out WW2 which is at least as important a wargaming period as any of the others I play.  In fact I spent three years on a 1940 project to the exclusion of everything else more or less, but no way to reflect it, unless I drop out ACW or Napoleonic for example, which are just as important to me.

I'll leave it out this time round.

Never found it any good the last time.

Got more important things to think about.

I've filled it in with 10mm and 1/72 historicals as the only way to go, this forum as my main source of inspiration, and as much vitriol against 28mm and the mainstream mags as I could squeeze into the answer constraints.   :d  :d

Complete & utter waste of time.

Just like all those employee satisfaction surveys we used to do.

Management: "How can we improve morale and product delivery?"
Workers: "Pay people a decent wage, hire enough people to do the required work, have clear and concise requirements to work to, and target deadlines that are achievable."
Management: "Yeah, we meant like yoga or something . . ."

Filled it out but agree with the comments here, the answers are so limited to give an unrealistic result.

Not sure what the purpose of this survey is. If its just to decide the content of next years magazines it fairly pointless, I refuse to pay £6 for a magazine with perhaps 3 pages of interest, when I can buy a book an a definite subject for that amount.

The question which always amuses me is how many painted figures do you have. While someone with a 28mm collection might know (and I've got about 150 28mm VSF figures) those of us with 6/10mm collections might struggle. Theres ~2800 bases for Spearhead and Modern Spearhead (again a guess), and some of those have an APC and 6-7 figures (do I count that as one or 8?). Likewise the Volley and Bayonet Napoleonics have 50 odd figures a base. I made a guess at somewhere between 10-15000 figures which I think might be a bit low.

Yeah, I found myself pondering this too. Are Warmaster strips one figure or six are my Project Wargaming Roman Legion blocks one item or sixty? Just fudged a figure in the end.

I refused to have that my gender was "assigned at birth."

QuoteI gave up counting many years ago....

Tsk! 892 aircraft, 51 ships, 11,433 infantry, 1649 cavalry, 1094 artillery, 249 guns, 683 vehicles, 521 command figures and 1301 "other" - total 17,863.

I wish I were. It was in a staff survey.

We recently had a Diversity awareness course at work. It was aimed almost exclusively at the white staff and the way they behave towards those of African or Caribbean ancestry.

I tried to do it with an open mind , but thought it full of woke BS and "facts" that did not take into account the real world. However I thought that as a white man it was probably best if I kept mouth shut.

Two weeks later, I saw a colleague who for various reasons I had not seen for a while, and went to chat. He had just completed the same course, and was spitting bullets. He sounded off for some time about what total crap the course was, how the Woke people who had put it together did not know what they were talking about etc etc.

He said "I came to the UK with my parents from Jamaica, in the 70's and while I had some racism at school I have never experienced any form of abuse about my colour in 40 years with this company, and as for white privilidged I think its total B*ll*cks.  its courses like this that cause trouble"

"To every one in this office I was Roy and was treated the same as everyone else. thanks to this course  I am now Roy the black man, and have to be treated differently, lest I be offended"

I have since had similar comments (although not as vociferously put) by other non white colleagues.

A colleagues parents came here in the 60's from the Caribbean  and he was born in the UK. So in my book he is British/ English the same as me. His ancestors may have come from Africa, in the same way as some of mine came from Italy.

I assume its the black population that say you are not really African? But most of the blacks in South Africa are descended from those that invaded from the North at roughly the same time the Europeans were invading from the south.  Therefore either you are all now proper South Africans, regardless of skin colour or none of you are.

If none of you are perhaps power should be handed over to the Khoe-San as the original inhabitants of the area.

It would make sense. The Bushmen were the most culturally attractive people there, and about the only ones of any colour who didn't make exterminating their neighbours a priority project. Naturally, the rest of us did everything possible to wipe them out.

After everyone had conscientiously started calling them the Khoi San, it turned out that the term meant something like "wandering thieves".  ;D
