Welcome - some useful articles - your method of translating real world OoB to in game ones is similar to what I have done for WWII, and there always seem to be a few 6 gun / vehicle units that you have to decide if you want to represent with 1 or 2 models.
With the sheets to lay the models on, are you doing these in any particular software? If feels a good way to illustrate and confirm what you need for a formation, but I think I'd then want to store them like this, which feels very space inefficient.

The unit sheets were created using Pages on my Mac but having had a quick go with my work laptop it looks like it'd be straightforward with MS Word too.
I don't store the models on the sheets. As you say that would be prohibitively inefficient space-wise. I store my models in wooden IKEA cabinets that have A4-sized drawers that are about 25mm high. I can just put the sheets in on top of the models, though as I produce more I may switch to keeping them in clear file pouches in a ring binder.
Thanks Richard - Pages is a good shout, I might give that a go.
I do like the ridiculously simple idea of putting the sheet on top of the figures - might have taken me a while to work that one out, as I would have wanted to put the sheet under the figures, as that is how it would be used. But on top would work nicely, and you are likely to get two forces in a draw, so 2 sheets on top would hardly be a problem.
Which Ikea drawers have you got? I'm always on the look out for more storage! I've got a set of Bisley metal drawers that are great, around A4 footprint (a bit deeper) and quite shallow (probably 40mm) so great for storing 10mm figures and vehicles.
I've probably had my IKEA cabinets for twenty years. They aren't in the current catalogue. The nearest I can see is the "Alex" nine-drawer unit but the pair I own have many more, shallower drawers at the top.
