Title: The Move Pics and Updates!
Post by: Leon on 28 March 2021, 05:40:29 PM
As with our previous move in 2012 I thought it would be nice to give everyone some daily updates and pics as we progress through the transfer to our new home.  There's a lot more to be done this time around as it's a much bigger place and we need to do some initial alterations to the building before we can move in.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51078467118_c4bab8edae_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kPCuJb)Jobs (https://flic.kr/p/2kPCuJb) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

The building is generally in good condition and we've got some rooms that are fine as they are.  The workshop is the main area of work as we need to firstly partition it off into a laser room and casting room, and then we need to replace a previous mezzanine floor which will give me my new office.  The whole workshop area needs a good clean down and repaint as well and the casting room needs fresh wiring bringing in to the centre of the room to power all of the casting machines and melting pots.  So firstly we had to get a load of timber delivered so that we can get started on the new rooms:

So several tons of timber arrived at 7:30am on Saturday morning and we also collected the scaffolding tower ready for the redecorating works.  We'll be able to use it to fix some of the lighting as well.

Monday's plan is:

- decorate the casting room and start on the workshop walls.
- build the timber frames for the new laser room.
- start welding the new racks and workstations for the casting guys
- fill the cabling channel with concrete before we leave for the day.
- start clearing the brush from external fencing ready for new security fencing coming.

Laser room!

Bet it's not as exciting as it sounds - but I would still make "pyow pyow" noises as I went in.

We had a solid 1st day of proper work today with a lot of progress being made on multiple fronts.  We went and picked up all of the box section for the new tables and racking, as well as the metal mitre saw from the tool hire place.  We had 4 teams running today:

- Dave and Ian on metal cutting and welding for the new tables and racking
- Mike, me and Jimbo on timber assembling the new laser machine room
- Ashley, Joshua and Ben in the new moulding room getting it cleaned out and redecorated
- Adele and Jess in the packaging room getting it cleaned out and prepped for all of the stock drawers coming over
- We also had Lynne outside fighting with the overgrown foliage along the fence line ready for the new security fencing arriving

The new room is coming together nicely and we should have the floor joists on there tomorrow and the rest of the walls in place.  We've got stairs coming on Thursday so we can't finish that side until they've arrived, so we'll probably start on the 2nd floor in the meantime.

Most of the metal has been cut and Dave/Ian welded together the first of the new tables as a test, so there'll be another 3 of those done by Tues all ready for painting.  The mould racks should be done as well and we can start fitting those to the walls next week (the walls need painting first).

The packaging room should be the first to be completed and Jess spent the afternoon cleaning all of the drawers/units of talc powder, so that we're not dragging all of the dust straight into the new place!

I need to get the new casting electrics cable concreted into the floor on Tues as well, ready for the electrician coming on Wed.

Wow!!
Good going.

I've spent 2 days clearing junk out of my garage and installing hooks on the wall to hang my bike paraphernalia.
I'd estimate my effort at about a 1/32nd of a Pendraken - and I'm exhausted.

Thats because 1/32 is actually 54mm, so as Pendraken is 10mm you are expending energy at 5.4 times  that of a Pendraken person.

More progress today with the ceiling joists in for the laser machine room, the worktops fitted in the packaging room, the mould racks made and lastly, the foliage cleared outside ready for the new security fencing!

Tomorrow we'll be boarding out the second floor for the new office, as well as the 2nd level of the stud walls.  The packaging room should be just about complete apart from the computer and packaging materials which have to remain at the current unit until we've got the phone lines/internet transferred over.  The mould racks and tables will be getting painted and we can finally get the floor swept and ready for painting now that most of the cutting/welding work has been done.  The electrician will be here as well to fix the electrics and put our new wiring into the laser room and office.

We're managing to keep on track so far, with the timber work right on schedule and the new metalwork actually done a day early, so we'll be able to put those guys to work on something else tomorrow.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51001737084_b3cac35d00_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kGReyy)TablesandRacks (https://flic.kr/p/2kGReyy) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

The painting team have worked their way through the moulding room, the workshop toilets and the staff room as well, so we'll get them going on the workshop walls on Thursday.  Everything had been done in a really weird shade of yellow previously, almost a pale mustard, so it's nice to have them in clean white (and a lot brighter as well!)  We've had to wait for the welding/cutting to finish before we can paint the workshop, and then once those walls are done we can paint the floors before starting to put the tables and machines into position.

The electrician was in today to check all of the old wiring and remove anything we don't need, as well as bring in the new wires for the laser machine room.  Tomorrow he'll be finishing that off as well as the lights.

We've channeled in new cabling to power the casting machines in the centre of the workshop so once everyone had left for the day I got that concreted over to give it time to dry overnight.

Seems to be going well and amazingly quickly, wish my projects would go as fast and efficiently.  I guess that the security fence is necessary everywhere nowadays, but it does prompt visions of Tom Cruise breaking in on a mission to steal the latest 10mm sculpts for a shadowy millionaire wargamer. :D

You need the fence up before you start any of the building work - as otherwise the 'buggers' will nip in and nick all your power tool faster than you can say 'bingo'!

I was once on the Board of a large print business and was called in by our COO (along with the rest of the board) to watch some CCTV security camera footage of 4 'lads' who'd scaled the 12 foot security fence the night before, broken into the tool locker, dismantled a new forklift truck and then man-handled it up and over the fence in bits. Getting the battery up and over was an unbelievable feat of strength and ingenuity.
We had the forklift back and they were all in police custody within 48hrs and in prison within 6 months ... sad ... but a new forklift would have fetched £30k on the black market back then.
Two of the four worked for us and were readily identifiable on the CCTV. Just daft.

Yeah, the fencing is essential for any business premises really, even as just a visual deterrant than an actual barrier.  There's already a chainlink fence up but it looks like the original one from the 1970's and has definitely seen better days.  We've got a new 8ft palisade fence coming at the start of Week 3 which will improve the outside look of the place a lot.

As we approach the end of the first week we're still just about on schedule with the various rooms, even with the distractions that inevitably come with a large project like this!

The highlight of the day was our new office stairs arriving this morning, which we got setup and into place this afternoon.  We have to thoroughly recommend a company called Stairbox here, who made these to our dimensions and self-delivered them all the way to us in Middlesbrough, for less than £400.  So if you ever need a new staircase, give them a look: https://www.stairbox.com/

The packaging room is coming on nicely and most of the shelving units are in there now.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51088465156_15345dd8cb_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kQvJN9)PackagingShelves (https://flic.kr/p/2kQvJN9) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

And the painting team have finished off all of the tables and mould racks (the tables are on their ends before anyone asks!)  We'll have to repaint some of the current racking when it comes over from the old unit, but we can do that next week sometime.

We've started the 2nd floor stud wall and also put the first few sheets of plasterboard on the ground floor.

In the new moulding room we've upgraded the strip lights to some nice LED units instead:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51089278090_58c517dd51_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kQzUsf)MouldingRoom (https://flic.kr/p/2kQzUsf) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

An awkward job today was removing an old roof-level heater unit, which was sited around 15ft in the air and right in the space that we're building the office.  The two guys who came to take it down were a bit like Waldorf and Statler and spent the 2 hours endlessly joking and insulting each other, but they got it down in the end.  It was a pretty nervous job though as the unit weighs about as much as a person so when the full weight of it dropped, the guy on the other end of the rope suddenly became slightly airborne for a second!  All done now and I just need to get the old flue hole repaired in the roof.

Tomorrow we'll get the rest of the plasterboard on, and paint the workshop walls as well.

There's three existing walls around it, so we've got fixings into masonry on two sides, an upright metal  and a metal girder running through the back of the new room.  The new stud work at the front is 3x2 CLS with OSB board on it, and we've reduced the studs and joists down to 450mm centres to give extra strength throughout.  There won't be much weight up there either, it's going to be my office so it's desks and computers mainly.  Luckily we've got a retired council planning officer doing the timber work for us so he's keeping us on track with the building regs requirements and making sure we're doing it properly.

Today was more timber work and starting the painting of the workshop, which took a lot longer than we expected!  Breeze blocks soak up paint like you wouldn't believe!  We're over the worst of it now so we should be able to ge the rest of it done tomorrow.

So...

The stairs have been boxed in now so they look a bit safer to get up and down!

The top of the end wall has been painted white, again covering this awful pastel mustard colour that was everywhere in the unit.

The plasterboard has gone over most of the front walls now, just a little gap to fill and then the windows can go in.

And I spent most of the day up on the 1st floor getting the floorboards laid and fixed down.  There's just a final row to do down the end there now.

Breeze blocks soak up paint like you wouldn't believe!

Same with brickwork and new plaster.  Seal them with a solution of PVA and water.

I think that "Awful pale mustard" is what used to be called Buttermilk.

A once popular tome of masonary paint M'lud.
Favoured in the days when white didn't cover well, or the original surface had several contrasting colours.

Consider it an undercoat that'll show you the bits you've missed.

Today's been all painting work, so we've got the workshop walls finished off and also painted the floor in what will be the moulding room.

And then I did a quick fix on the roof where the old heater was, as the flue had fallen off while the guys were removing it.  The 'Upside Down Bucket' method will keep the water out until after the Easter weekend and we can get a professional in.

No pics today but we got the floorboards finished upstairs and painted the outer edge of the workshop floor, so that we can put the racking/tables on it while we do the rest of it.  Tomorrow we need to get the plasterboard and stud walls finished ready for the electrics to be finished off on Wednesday and the carpets to go in on Thursday.  I think we're going to miss out on painting the rooms all pre-carpet so we'll just have to cover them properly and paint afterwards.

We also spent a few hours today casting and prepping a load of orders, so there's about 40 orders going out in Tuesday's post and then another batch on Thursday.  We're trying to keep things ticking over as much as we can as we need the orders to keep coming in while we get through all of the moving costs.

I hope you've managed to address Matt J's concerns for the safety of that mezzanine, "3x2 CLS with OSB board on it" means nothing to this antipodean, "450mm centres" makes sense ;)

CLS = Canadian Lumber Standard - (Kiln dried construction grade softwoods).

Today we've been putting the insulation and ceiling boards into the laser machine room and getting the last few wall boards up as well.  We also popped the window in as well but it still needs framing properly.

Over in the packaging room Jess has grabbed a couple of the desks and put those in the middle to make a little stock packaging area for show prep.

The workshop has had the outer edge painted grey so that we can start fitting the new racking to the walls and get some moulds over to the new place.

And we've moved the first batch of moulds over!  These are all the master moulds which will live in the casting room, so it's only about 1/8th of the total moulds in Pendraken HQ.  It's a start though!

Tomorrow we need to get the laser machine finished completely ready for the carpets coming on Thurs.  We'll need to skim/plaster/paint after they've gone in, but we can cover the floor easily enough.  The electrician is onsite again as well to get all of the lighting and sockets finished off on the ground floor.

Today's focus was on the laser room to make sure that it's all done and ready for the carpets arriving on Thursday, so we've got the plasterboard finished, the sparky put all of our lights and switches in and then we quickly popped the skirting boards on tonight.

There's still a few jobs to do in there, the sockets need putting on, the plasterboard needs skimming and some holes need filling, the window needs framing and we need a new pair of doors at the corridor entrance.  Then the whole room needs a coat of paint as well.

While he was here the electrician popped the lights and emergency lights in the exit corridor as well.

Elsewhere we had the security company onsite upgrading the alarm system to a fancy new one which I can control using my phone.  Everyone will have their own entry code so we can see whos's opened/closed each day and I can set the alarm remotely if we ever forget to set it as we leave.  We've got CCTV cameras coming as well which will also link to the phone so that I can watch them from home.

And some good news for everyone, we're a bit ahead of schedule on the workshop side of things so we got Dave and Ian to do a day's casting each so we've managed to get a good chunk of orders done and ready to go out in Thursday's post.

We really appreciate these new orders at the moment, the moving costs have severely depleted the funds (long story, the bank screwed us for an £3500 at the last minute) so every penny helps right now.  Once we get in and settled things will be fine again but it's a bit nervy right now!

Upstairs we've got half of the joists up so we started a bit of plasterboarding up there.  We've gone for exposed beams in the office for a bit more character (and it's easier to lay them above than below with these wider centres!)

And out in the workshop our little rubber feet arrived so we can now start fitting the racks to the walls and bring over some moulds!

Friday will be more joists and plasterboard in the office, another 2 mould racks from old Pendraken to fill this wall run, and then we might get a batch of moulds over in the afternoon.  We're also building the casting area partitions ready to screw to the floor next week.  And last job for the day will be the plastering in the laser room (as long as I can find my dust sheets to protect that new carpet!)

There's a skin of plasterboard going on the outside of that wall so I'll probably just tape/fill the gaps at the end of the joists and then we'll paint it all white inside.

I'll have to get a pic of my eldest, he's not far off the 'full Bowen' at the moment.  He's taken to shirts and waistcoats for 95% of his attire, even when gardening or just sitting in his room, so all he'd need is some fluffy cuffs and he's there.

Today was more work upstairs with plasterboarding and stud walls for the office.  We've got the carpets coming up there in about 10 days so we need to get this all finished off next week.  I've got the electrician back next Tuesday as well to put the lights and sockets in for us.

Yesterday was officially the final postage day from Old Pendraken and today we broke down the whole packaging area and brought it all over to New Pendraken.  There are a lot of orders in the system at the moment (with quite a few waiting on paints/decals/resin deliveries) so we decided that the safest way to get them moved over was to lay them all out in a mosaic on the van floor!  There's some little sneaky new things hiding among these as well, for the eagle-eyed among you...

We managed to get the first row of mould racks secured to the walls today so we went and got the first batch of production moulds as well, which fills in almost everything from Ancient Greece to around 1812.  The next lot will come over on Mon/Tues and then the machines can be cleaned down and prepped for the move later in the week.

I'm incredibly bad at visualising the innards of hollow things.
But those mould cylinders on racks remind me of the bad old days of open reel half inch tape storage.

Quote"Dammit Jim, the Architecture Vulcan has corrupted his autocads again.
Uhurua, fetch me reels 079, 084 and 257 from the vault".

Work was so much more enjoyable in those days.

I want to know which vacuum cleaner(s) you're going to get......Or is the mould room going to be hermetically sealed, to stop all of the talcum powder getting into every nook and cranny throughout the building. ;)

Ooooh !......What IS the new address, Leon ?........I'm not sending all of the masters to the wrong place. :D

Don't worry, Steve....I'm sure I said this YEARS ago.

When I was 'Miniatures coordinator' at GW I was sent on a crash course of 'how to make moulds'.....So I had some idea of 'what would work...and what wouldn't'..

I was making one of the half dozen, or so, moulds that I did that week, when some visitors walked in.

At that point I was cutting into the rubber, ..to make a rough shape of where the Green Stuff masters would go into the mould.

The 'visitor' thought I was making a negative in the rubber to produce a model. :o :o :o

It did occur to me that printing the negatives would reduce the need for all those supports and risers.
But that doesn't answer the many questions about castability in the printed medium.

This weekend we've down there getting the laser machine room plastered and painted, as well as doing another chunk of the workshop floor.  I've just caught up on all of the emails as well so the orders are in the system and we'll have them out to you asap.

Title: Re: The Move Pics and Updates!
Post by: Leon on 12 April 2021, 09:16:23 PM
We'd plastered and base coated the laser machine room over the weekend...

... and then today it got another two coats of paint to finish it off.  I completely forgot to take a picture though!

We also managed to get the grey workshop floor finished off today which is looking quite nice!  Shame that it'll never look this good again once the machines, dirty boots and casting powder get all over it!

Tomorrow we've got the electrician back to finish off the sockets in the laser room, put the lighting and sockets into the office, wire in the sockets for the casting machines (that black cable in the middle of the workshop pictures) and also move a light switch in the moulding room.  We should have the majority of the plasterboarding done in the office as well so that's getting close to needing a coat of paint now.  Wednesday the laser machines are coming over and then Thursday we're hoping to get all of the casting machines and moulds over from the old place.  So all being well, we'll be back in production by Monday 19th!

It must be the angle as I've not noticed it being out of whack in real life.  We have found though that a lot of the existing walls aren't square, which has caused some fun when we've built a perfectly level new stud wall and find ourselves with a random gap when we reach the original brickwork.

I don't know why that door has a cat flap either, extremely weird.  There's a roller door outside that door, so there's no access in/out through it anyway.  I'm curious as to whether it's to let the cat out or the rats in?!

We've made some good progress today with the casting partitions put into position and the initial wiring brought through.  We need to finish the white cover boards and wire in the rest of the plugs this weekend.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51114973705_c5846101f1_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kSRAS6)CastingPartitions (https://flic.kr/p/2kSRAS6) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

The laser machine room is now ready for the machines to come over on Wednesday, with all of the sockets fitted and our nice new worktops in place as well.  We just need to get some cornicing to finish off the walls and run a bit of sealant around all of the electrical fixtures.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51113617817_6261c11ace_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kSJDNH)LaserWorktops (https://flic.kr/p/2kSJDNH) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

And upstairs we're continuing with the framework and plasterboarding to complete this room.  BT are coming on Thursday to fit our phone lines and turn the internet on, and then the electrician is back on Saturday to fit our lights and sockets for us.  Then we can finish off the walls and get some paint on them!

As we get towards the end of Week 3 we now have some machines!  The laser machine company came up to move these for us today and got them all setup ready for next week.  We just need to get the extraction fans fitted and then we're good to go on bases and buildings.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51117050785_e79629c395_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kT3fiP)LaserMachines (https://flic.kr/p/2kT3fiP) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

And then this afternoon me, Dave and Ian went over to old Pendraken and got the vulcanising presses (mould making machines).  These are heavy bits of kit, probably 80-100kg per piece so we took it slow and careful with a new 300kg capacity trolley to wheel them in.

Thursday sees our phone lines and internet get activated so we'll be able to field phone calls again.  Apologies to anyone who's been trying to call these past couple of weeks, we've got your messages on the answering machine and we'll get back to you asap.  We'll also be bringing all of the casting machines over tomorrow, which are again large, heavy pieces of machinery.  We've got 6 or 7 of us ready to get these manhandled into the van and into position in the new place.  Once that's done we'll get everyone busy on the moulds and those should all be over by the end of Thurs.

Might be a bit dodgy that.  I know breathing in dust when you sand them is a very bad idea as it will take formaldehyde into the lungs.

We got the machines and more moulds over to Pendraken HQ today but everything's a bit chaotic until we get the moulds onto the racks and the machines screwed into the floor, so no pics today!  The BT engineer got our phone line in so we've got a phone now, but it'll be a day or two before our number comes over to the new line.  We had a bit of good news today when the security fencing people rang and said that they can come a day earlier so they'll be onsite for 8am on Friday to start on the first section of new fencing.

I'm not sure if our MDF contains that?  The formaldehyde is usually in the resin that binds the material but the laser grade stuff that we use is held together with some kind of natural glue I think?  You can tell the difference if you run your finger along the edge of an MDF base/building.  If you get a line of black dust/soot on your finger, than it's been cut from regular MDF.  The sides will be a much darker black as well.  If there's almost no residue on your finger and the sides of the MDF are a more caramel colour, then it's the laser grade material instead.  The costs are higher on the proper laser stuff but it's much nicer to work with and doesn't give off as much smoke/soot.

Camera angles can produce some very interesting results.

If the camera is lower (pointing up) or higher (pointing down) than the object the lines of perspective will converge or diverge respectively.

On Thursday we'd got the machines over and then the tables and edging strips were done on Friday.  The machines need to be fixed into the floor so that's the priority for Monday.  Today we also sealed up the gaps around the partitions to stop any dust/grime/artillery wheels from disappearing under there forever!

We've also got the tables for the melting pots all painted and ready to go into place on Monday morning.

The mould making room is now all fully setup with the machines in, racking fixed to the wall, and wiring complete.

Upstairs we've completed most of the plasterboard work and also moved the original doorway down the wall by 6ft!  This door leads into a small storage room but we wanted to free up the left hand corner for my desk to fit in, and make it slightly easier to get the wiring/sockets installed.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51122638755_2ac7b55007_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kTwTq8)OfficeNewDoor (https://flic.kr/p/2kTwTq8) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

And then today we got the extraction sorted out for the laser machines so that they can be up and running on Monday.  It took quite a while to get the circular drill through the metal cladding but we got there in the end!  For now we've just put a bit of extending hose on the outside but we'll get a proper cowl fitted up there next week.

So, we've got about an hour's work on Monday morning to get the machines fixed down and then we can restart casting.  We've got all of your pending orders stacked up here ready for the machines so we'll hit the ground running and start getting these out to you as quickly as we can.  With the laser machines working now as well there's no delays on anything really so it's nice to finally be 'open' again!

;D  We did a bit more digging on the name and we've found a previous occupant using Cleveland House so we're just checking whether this is still registered with the council database.  If it is then we'll just keep it, it's easier than getting things changed.

We've got all of the machines setup today and casting has resumed!  The tables have now got some moulds on the shelves, spares trays above and order boxes to the side, but I got some pics while they looked neat and tidy!

And outside we've had the fencing people in to get started on our new security fence, which should be finished by Wednesday.  It'll be a lot tidier than the chainlink and definitely harder for anyone to get over!

The property plans we've got here show us coming to edge of the pavement and the properties to either side have got their fences at the outer line as well, so we're just coming out to join that boundary really.

Today we organised all of the orders, emails, additions and amendments so that we know where we are with the orders.  These have been split into the different piles and we'll be working through these as quickly as possible.

We were casting all day as well, so the orders will be flying out of the door until we get caught up.

Upstairs the final office wall has been boarded and we dropped through the wiring for the lights and power.  The electrician is back for his final shift on Saturday to get this all finished for us and we'll be decorating it over the next few days.

Not at all, they'd always been bare metal in the past so we thought it would be nice to add a bit of colour to the casting room.  Each of the guys chose their own colours.

Angus Lennie was a rather short fellow.

Machinegun towers are out of fashion in these modern times.
Not since we have lasers.

Today's big news is that the outside fencing is complete and it's made a huge difference to the external appearance, it looks so much tidier and more 'professional' really.  We need to give the original gates a new coat of paint and longer term we'll infill the internal grass/weed borders with concrete instead.  I'd like a bit of greenery/nature to the front so I think we're going to build some basic raised beds and pop some of those meadow seeds in to give us some colour out front.

We've made huge strides on the order front as well, with 40 packages going out today and another 60 ready for posting out tomorrow.  The laser team have really ploughed through their stack and we're almost up to date on all MDF items.

And we now have an address!  We've confirmed that Cleveland House has been used previously so we've just reinstated that rather than go through the hassle/paperwork of changing it with the relevant places.  Our first two deliveries arrived today from Epsilon and Vallejo so we've been able to fill a few back orders.

Thursday we'll be continuing to get the orders out, the upstairs office will be finished ready for painting, and we'll be spending a few hours over at Old Pendraken to get the last of our stuff out of there.  We've got a skip arriving for a load of the junk, so we should be able to start painting it early next week before we hand the keys back on the 30th.

If you want the blue one, most of the ranges from Ancients to 1905 would be the blue machine!  Anything 20th Century will be the yellow one, and AWI/Naps/Fantasy/Sci-Fi are on the red machine.  We do have a green one as well but it needs a new control panel fitting to it before it goes into regular use.

I'm not sure there's a massive market for those!  Although you can buy fresh Canadian air these days, so maybe there is something for us to tap into...  https://vitalityair.com/collections/lake-louise

Some lunatic is* selling vagina scented candles, so there obviously is a market for these sort of things

*was - all sold out apparently - so, who's the lunatic? The woman selling these for $75, or the people buying them?

More to the point who had the job going round sniffing vaginas and making notes on the "tones of the scent" :)

Thursday and Friday have been spent finishing off and tidying up the plasterboard inside and outside the new office, as well as getting the scaffolding tower back to shift a light unit and clear out some old wiring on the roofing beams.

Back at the old unit, Adele has spent two days clearing everything out and sweeping/mopping the mountain of dust.  We'll get this finished off over the weekend and then we can get it all repainted early next week.  It's strange how big the place feels now that all of our stuff is out of it.

And I forgot to take a pic of these last weekend, but after 3 weeks of crawling around measuring, sawing and drilling, my trusty boots gave up the ghost and fell apart.  Time for some new ones I think!

Finally, we've managed to get 173 orders processed and posted out this week so we're racing through the pile.  We've taken on a new caster as well this week so once they're up to full speed we'll have 4 guys spinning your orders up each week.

Having had 4 girls going to Uni I would have been with you on that.

However last year the youngest finished her degree. Her landlord had been very responsive and reasonable throughout the two years they had stayed in his property.
When we went to collect her stuff after the end of first lockdown we bumped into him deep cleaning the house and decorating the rooms that were already unoccupied.  He said to me  " I  am going to repaint the bedrooms and replace  the hall carpet.  The only work I have is wear and tear. When I came to this country I had a landlord refuse my deposit for no good reason, so I know what its like to be cheated. They will all get their deposits back within a fortnight of them leaving.".  He was true to his word.

Sadly that's true of residential lettings but not commercial unfortunately.  In a residential let the landlord has to accept 20% 'wear and tear' per annum, so after 5 years of a single tenant all of the fittings (carpets, curtains, white goods, etc) are no longer the tenants responsibility and if they need replacing then the landlord has to do it.

With commercials, the tenant has to leave the property in the same state as we took it on, so we have to repaint all walls, floors and doors, replace a water heater that's never worked in 9 years, get electric and gas safety certificates (although I'm challenging that second one as gas fixtures should be the landlord responsibility).  They tried to get us to put down carpets that weren't present when we took it on as well.  Basically we're making it all nice and ready for them to put new tenants straight in...

One of the other units in our compound used to be secondhand car dealers who left without doing anything to repair the place and the landlords sent them a bill for £6000 of work.  We heard that it went to court and the judge found in the tenants favour, but potentially having to do something like that is a headache I could do without right now.  We'll redecorate, make sure everything works and then hand the keys back.  I'm fully expecting them to find something wrong and we won't get the deposit back anyway so I've written that off.

Time for another update!  Saturday and Sunday we got the last of our stuff out of the old unit and then skimmed all of the plasterboards in the new office.  The electrician was back in on Saturday and got the lights and sockets installed up there for us, so we now have light!  I'll be starting the painting in there on Monday morning, while the rest of the painting team are back at the old place to get that sorted out.

Ah, that's rather tighter then...

Problem with landlords doing the latter is that it gives a perverse incentive for the tenant not to bother - if they're gonna sting your deposit, what's the point in even trying to make good?

Still? Good job you've enough time and resources to basically renovate the whole damn premises, even for the stuff that's always been duff! Cheeky deckers about the carpet - that's well off. Cant think why landlords/letting agents have a bad rep, neh.

It doesn't look like much progress but I got all of the sanding done today and then started the cutting-in on the paintwork.  With the exposed beams there's a whole lot of edges to paint!  Tomorrow I'll get at least two block coats on and maybe a 2nd cutting in before we give it a final coat on Wednesday.

Over at the old unit the painting team cracked on at a hell of a pace and got the whole unit repainted white in one day!  Puts my efforts to shame a bit...  With that done we can do the glossing on Tues, paint the floor on Wed, replace the strip lights on Thurs... and hand the keys back on Friday!

And finally we got another 40 orders packaged and posted out so the outstanding pile is getting smaller!

The metal is stored on each station so there isn't really a central point for it.  We don't keep a large amount on site either, there's a delivery at the start of each month and we soon go through it.

How about putting out a Lead recycling bin at the stall when shows start again. Say you will donate £1 to Help for heroes for every Kilo collected. or give a raffle ticket for each kilo and at 50 KG pull a ticket from the hat for a free army pack.

I have given a load of lead figures to be recycled by a trader friend over the years.  He mixes a little at a time into his melting pot .

Leon wouldn't use 'second hand' metal....Good for him. :)

Otherwise I'd send all the 'used'/surplus to requirements stuff that ends up sitting on my desk, back to him.

It wouldn't be worth it.....It would cost more in postage, than the value of the white metal.
I'm afraid I 'bin' oodles of figures. :P

I could have probably lined the whole of Techno Towers a few times over with the figures I've got rid of.

We've already got one, Ian.  ;D

I'm sure I've mentioned this before.

In what is laughingly called the 'garden'/lawn  ;D ;D ;D.....There's a tank that's so frigging enormous you could genuinely build a nuclear fallout bunker without too much effort.

Personally.....I wouldn't want to drown myself in that, as it stands, at the mo'......Poo...what a stinker. :-&
When we've had it emptied, in the past......Though never, ever emptied remotely fully......The 'stuff' that's floated up to the surface.....You really don't want to know.

I'm fairly certain that none of the 'remains' that have floated to the surface have been anything other than 'animal'.

I've never called the equivalent of CSI.

Cheers - Phil :)

One of the lesser-known perks of having a laser machine is the ability to knock up some flanges whenever you want...!  We had some gaps around the roof joists that were a bit big for mesh/plaster/filler so we got our 2D guy to make us some handy flanges to sit over the joists and around the metal roof beam as well.

We had some good news today as the landlords have agreed that we don't need to get the gas safety certificate as we've never used the heater, so that's £250 saved!

Over at the old unit Adele got the floor all painted and rather shiny it looks too!  The last thing to do here is replace the strip lights, so once that's done on Thursday we're all set for handing the keys back at midday on Friday.

We've been getting on with another few odd jobs today, including putting the insulation on top of the office roof.  Never a fun job dealing with this stuff but that's half of it done and it'll be easy enough to finish this off tomorrow.  The circular hole you can see in the roof is where the old heating unit flue went through, so we had a local roofing company out on Tuesday to fix that for us properly.

All looking good and Cleveland House is a good solid name .... though it lacks the panache of Worky McWorkshop :D

I really liked some of the suggestions, Centurion House and Vulcan House were my favourites.  But when we did some more digging through the paperwork we found Cleveland House on an old energy survey and it was still showing on the council database.  It's a pain getting names changed so we figured it was easiest to leave it in place rather than faff about trying to get it altered.

We've got all of the strip lights replaced at the old place so that's it all complete now and ready to hand back.  End of an era there but we're moving on to bigger things now!

And we also spent an hour or so with the scaffolding tower getting the workshop wall plasterboard skimmed and sealed, ready for painting early next week hopefully.

I can do a video tour, no worries there.  Rounding up the staff for a picture might be difficult though, a lot of them aren't too keen on being photo'd!

Ah! I see. A fresco then. "The Dark Lord leads his creatures to the inevitable supremacy of the one true scale!" Picture of Leon pointing optimistically into the future, whilst Milady stands at his side, dimpled chin determinedly stuck forward (possibly clutching a heroically streaming flag (with edges appropriately coloured))  whilst behind (and much smaller) the casting dwarves and the rest of the Pendraken bestiary gaze in appreciation, hope and a little green gunk in their eyes as they blink at the golden dawn of a new era.

Pendraken could all stand facing it every morning as they sing the company song and do 10 minutes of knee bends and stretches.

Maybe I don't actually appreciate the Pendraken company ethos.

Perhaps Leon could make a Forum Calendar using members of the forum  holding strategically placed Pendraken products to hide their nakedness.

It could be sent out free with any order under £100 or you could 'opt out' of the free gift by paying an extra £5 delivery charge - He would make a fortune  ;D ;D

Another 35 orders went out today as well which makes 185 packages sent out this week.  The piles are starting to look a lot more normal so we should be back to something close to a 7-day turnaround again within 2 weeks I'd think.

But you cold use army packs or packaged orders, FSN looking around the banner you used to use at shows.  Some of the MDF buildings would be suitable.  You would only need to print a few on the office printer, as expect the 'No free calender' payment would be taken up the vast majority.

Leon,

On the week 4 video there was a brief glimpse of what will be the entrance to the shop. I noticed it had a slight step, so not easily accessible for someone in a wheelchair? Something to consider at some point in the future perhaps?

There is a step at the front of the shop sadly and that bit of the building opens up into the parking at the front, so I don't think we'd have space for a ramp without it impeding the vehicle access.  Ideally we need to clear out some of the grass towards the fenceline to give more space for the cars to pull forward, so that might allow space for a ramp.  Alternatively we've got a secondary door at the back of the shop which is currently a pair or patio doors (I don't know why!) so I'd like to have a ramp up to those for bringing stock in and out of the shop when we're loading the van for shows.
Title: Re: The Move Pics and Updates!

Leon you may have to put a ramp in due to building regulations.

Leon you may have to put a ramp in due to building regulations.

I don't think there's any requirement under building regs but if we open the shop then we'd need to have disabled access of some form.  Looking at the entrance again, we've got a small entrance foyer as well which a wheelchair user would never be able to get through so the rear patio doors are going to be the easiest point to do something.
Title: Re: The Move Pics and Updates!
Post by: Lord Kermit of Birkenhead on 03 May 2021, 01:17:55 PM
That should be fine. I was thinking of our Grade 1 listed Gergorian square, where they have an exemption for disabled access.
Title: Re: The Move Pics and Updates!
Post by: John Cook on 03 May 2021, 03:00:43 PM
I'm confident that you'll only need to provide disabled access to non-public areas if you employ a disabled person.
Title: Re: The Move Pics and Updates!
Post by: Gwydion on 03 May 2021, 06:22:50 PM
I think we are talking about potential customers with a disability having equal access to the shop, vice employees. (who would, you are right, require adjustments).

The Equality Act 2010 requires some organisations, like shops, to make 'reasonable adjustments' to remove barriers people face, because of their disability, to have as equal access to services, as far as this is possible, as someone who does not have a disability.

What is 'reasonable' and 'as far as is possible' depends on many things - like practicability, cost, size of organisation etc.

May be as well to have a note somewhere* saying that you have at least considered the matter but found it impractical or prohibitively expensive(if such is the case), or your workaround involves access by another route. Just in case.

(a small step with infrequent use where a permanent ramp would block vehicular access could be solved by a small movable wooden ramp - the foyer is another matter.)

Probably okay on building regs - unless the shop would be a change of use in which case this document my apply:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/441786/BR_PDF_AD_M2_2015.pdf
(section 0.1C existing building change of use)

(*By 'note', I mean on file somewhere, dated, rather than on the wall or door!)
Title: Re: The Move Pics and Updates!
Post by: Leon on 03 May 2021, 10:13:21 PM
Thanks for the info, I think the 'reasonable' bit would limit us doing anything from the front as we'd have to pull down the walls in the foyer and get a full-time ramp built into the drive/parking area, which isn't really feasible.  Putting a permanent ramp to the rear doors would be fine though, as we'd wanted to do something for stock/show packing access as well.

Quote from: Gwydion on 03 May 2021, 06:22:50 PM

I don't think the change of use aspect would be an issue anymore since they changed all of the usage bands last year.  Where they used to have 'industrial', 'offices', 'retail' etc it's all been lumped together now into Class E I think, which covers all of those commercial uses.

And my little order has been dispatched as well.  Which apart from being good in its own right puts you ahead of another supplier (different scale) who has not yet fulfilled one in the same timeframe despite NOT moving, modernising, refurbishing old premises, arguing with landlords, posting to social media, ....

I must remember this when the next WSS or Wargames Illustrated survey comes out.

Apologies for the lack of updates, we're working through some small fiddly jobs at the moment which don't make much difference visually, so photos/updates wouldn't look too impressive!  So, over the past few days:

Saturday we went and picked up all of the fire doors for the new rooms/corridor, so we'll start fitting these on Friday.

Monday was spent mainly finishing off the plasterwork and sanding it all down ready for painting, which we started today with two coats done.  It'll need one last coat tomorrow and then I'll put some trim around the windows and tidy everything up a bit.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51159571197_5e7694243d_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2kWNb9n)WorkshopWallWhite (https://flic.kr/p/2kWNb9n) by Leon Pengilley (https://www.flickr.com/photos/156736924@N08/), on Flickr

We took a couple of hours today to get the shop tidied up a bit as well.  It had mainly been used as a bit of a dumping ground while we found homes for things but with the rooms starting to come together now we thought we might as well set it up like our show stand and then we can see what's what.  There's a lot of empty hooks here which we'll need to get filled up before we head off to the first show post-Covid (which is currently scheduled to be Hammerhead) and then we'll need fresh stock throughout once we start fitting out the shop.

With the outside of the office/laser room all painted white now we've been able to seal and frame the gaps around the windows, just to make them look a bit neater:

Upstairs we've started the fire doors today so I now have a frame in my office, which makes it feel a lot more like a room now:

We had to take the scaffolding tower back to the hire place today so I quickly got the insulation finished off before it went back.  I hate working with this stuff, I feel like I'm picking shards out of my arms for days, despite wearing several layers and gloves!

And with all of the machines and staff working hard to catch up on the orders, another 188 packages have been posted out this week to patient customers everywhere.  Hopefully they all arrive quickly for you!

That should keep the vile stuff off your skin, and you could wear it at the supermarket to give all the other shoppers a scare. :D

I know it's be posted a dozen times already but I am amazed by the speed of progress.

In the Foul Times, a great plague hit the land, and Nobby was much afraid, for he was old and fat and susceptible to the unhappiness of the people. Nobby went to his burrow and sealed up the entrance and was determined not to emerge until the land was free of the plague, but by tea-time he had consumed his supplies and so had to emerge to forage for biscuits. So it went on for many a month, and Nobby grew to enjoy the life of a hermit, and he spoke to no-one, and chose the path that avoided the other dwellers of the land. In the dark months Nobby re-organised his collections and looked upon the Centurions with much favour and he chuckled as he crooned a little song over them. He looked at his Guards in their Armour and consulted his grimoires to see if there were anything he had missed and did not know if he should be satisfied or disgruntled that there was nothing he could not reasonably add. At the back of his hoard he found the box that disturbed him. Nobby scowled and reached for the box. He knew it contained the Ring of Neelin-fi. He scowled again and thrust the box back into the very darkest corner of his burrow.

That night his dreams were unquiet. He saw in them the Ring of Neelin-Fi and it bubbled and mocked him in a chorus of high piercing voices. Then came to his dream he friend and mentor, Techno II,  known in the land of his fathers as Phil the Green Stuff and by the staff at his local hospital as Lewis Scalpel Hands, not for his skill with the blade, but because of the usual diagnosis.

"Oi Nobby, you Oik!" Phil the Green Stuff intoned his usual greeting. "How come I'm in your dream? ... 'cos I'm actually awake and trying to de-worm a hedgehog."
"You know hedgehogs eat worms, don't you?" Nobby inquired solicitously.
There was a brief pause, then the night-wraith spoke thus "wondered why she was putting up such a fight. Anyway, all yours now."

Freed from his self imposed act of animal husbandry, Phil the Green Stuff peered about Nobby's burrow.  Nobby could see the keen intellect at work; the furrowed brow, the myopic stare, the line of drool.
"It's the Ring of Neelin-Fi" prompted Nobby.
"Obviously, " snapped Phil the Green Stuff, "but I was just checking to see if there were any biscuits."
"What am I to do?"
"The Ring of Neelin-Fi will drag down your soul, well it would if you had one and not had it replaced with an ability to remember obscure historical facts and recite that at inappropriate times." Nobby thought back to his grandmother's funeral. It was the anniversary of the battle of Salamanca and he thought his eulogy was a refreshing break from those people waffling on about Granny.

Phil the Green Stuff beheld the creature that he once had high hopes for, but had come to recognise as a complete idiot.
"You know what you must do?" He asked gently?
"Stock up on digestives?" Nobby responded eagerly.
"No." Phil the Green Stuff drew a pipe from an inner pocket and began to grate a carrot into it. Nobby had seen this action before and wondered if Phil the Green was as wise as advertised. "No," said Phil the Green again, because the narrative about the pipe had been quite long and he feared his dramatic negative had been somewhat undermined. "No" said Phil the Green a third time, sounding frankly a bit narky. "NoyoumusttaketheRingofNeelinFiback" Phil the Green was frankly gabbling a bit now.
"Sorry?"
"No. You must take the Ring of Neelin-Fi back."
"To the Post Office?"
"No. Back to the fire, back to the lair of the Dark Lord, back to Middle-Borough."
"Oh."

"The narrator's having a strop. I'm sorry. Honest."

It is well known that the role of narrator is much despised by characters, but really rather vital to the plot. Narrators though, are gracious in the face of adversity.

Nobby gasped.
"Gasp!"
He blanched, even though it seemed an odd time to prepare vegetables.

"Yes, you must journey far to the North to Middle-Borough, and return the Ring of Neelin-Fi to the fire!" Phil the Green intoned in his most portentous voice - the effect being slightly diminished by the spray of carrot shavings that dropped from his pipe.

"Will Milady be there?" Asked Nobby hopefully.
"Well if she is, you're not allowed within 100 yards of the place" Phil the Green reminded him gently.
"True, true" said Nobby a little disappointed. He nibbled on a Digestive and wondered about Custard Creams.

"Will you accept the quest?" Intoned Phil the Green. He liked intoning.
"Yes." Said Nobby, unenthusiastically. "I shall journey to Middle-Borough to return the Neeling-Fi Ring to the fire."

But Phil the Green had gone, and all that was left was the smell of carrot.
"But only after the land is free of the plague." Mused Nobby as he reached for another Digestive.

Nah....You can buy all sorts of cruddy suits, Ian.

They seem to vary from around £60 to well over £1K....Goodness knows whether any of them are of any of the remotest use...though the expensive ones reckon they're good enough to stop any sort chemical or biological 'stuff'.

Nobby !.....I've told you before. When I appear in your dreams  X_X.....I don't want sodding digestives......Techno (II) needs Twiglets !!

Cheers - Phil  ;)

As an aside.... a certain OIK, very kindly sent me a package for my recent birthday.
Said package contained a number of items......One of which was a 'Covid' face-mask, which is basically  the bottom half of a face...This face has a beard & mustache which makes the wearer look like he's had very bad plastic surgery.

Last Saturday, I walked into the local Chemists (Pharmacy) to get the papers and some of my medication, wearing said mask.
I knew 'Heather' (who was at the front of the shop..doing some sort of stock-take) saw me out of the corner of her eye....I'm easily spotted, because of the awful yellow jacket I wear....and my mane of hair.
She turned, and then totally collapsed with laughter.....hands on knees...almost wetting herself (truly)......Then ran to the back of the shop, calling to the pharmacist and the other operative, to come and have a look.
It's nice to make folk smile....especially at the moment.

Saturday was spent up in the office getting another coat of paint on everything so hopefully we can get this finished off on Monday and ready for the carpets.  The stairwell will be next where we just need to plaster/sand/paint the walls and give the stair edges a coat of gloss.

Alas HBO are no longer selling (or rather failing to sell) their replica Iron Thrones.

However, 1st Dibs (https://www.1stdibs.co.uk) have the following, among others.

Prices are quite steep though!

It's been a little while since the last update so there's been a load of work going on!  We've now got the fire doors all framed and fitted, so we just need to paint the frames and pop some handles on these next.  They'll all need return hinges as well to keep them closed.

Every time I have seen Dave at a show he is eating Pie and chips,
It's the only time he's allowed to eat.

On another matter Leon, aside from having extra elbow room, do you think the new premises will increase productivity? Better workflows etc?

Definitely, on several fronts as well.

- The laser machines used to be crammed down a 6x15ft strip in the old place so it was a pain trying to get up and down to empty them.  With a new 20x15ft room there's plenty of space to spread out and make it more efficient.
- The casting stations used to be in the corners of the workshop with the moulds sticking out from walls and inbetween the tables, so it was quite disjointed.  The new layout with all 4 stations in quadrants in the middle, with moulds in chronological order along the walls is much easier to get around.  The new tables also have shelf space for several ranges, so each caster is able to put their most frequently used ranges on their own table and remove the walking/carrying about.
- The packaging room is about 3 times the size with all of our stock storage in there.  As well as the obvious space improvements, it's also now dust-free which keeps the stock nice and clean for sending out.
- The office has gone from an 8x10ft box with no space for filing systems to a 27x15ft proper office space with room for two full desk setups, filing cabinets, book shelves, etc.  I'll be able to set up a 'Design Wall' where we can hang all of the various projects we've got on the go, I can make a permanent photo-booth area for taking pics, a permanent 'figure cleanup' station for getting new releases prepped, etc.  There's even space for a couple of tub chairs and a coffee table to have mini-meetings at!

We've seen the efficiency already as we've posted out over 200 orders for two weeks running now and we've completely caught up on all of the orders placed during the move. We've currently got about 50 orders pending in total, which is something that we usually only manage around Christmas/New Year when things go quiet.  About a dozen of those orders are waiting on various stock to arrive as well, so it's not a delay at our end of things.  The pre-20th century casting guys actually ran out of orders on Thursday, which doesn't happen very often!

It'll take a while for us to get everything running properly and for me to implement a lot of the processes that I'd like to have in place, but within a couple of months we should be running pretty smoothly I think.

That's good to hear.

I've put three orders in during May, and they've all been despatched within 3-4 days.    :-bd

In Middle-Borough, pre-C20 casters are standing idle as their machines cool. You know what will happen next, we've seen it before. They will idly start discussing Hegel's Dialectics, or the merits of abiogenesis and panspermia, and the next thing the whole workforce will have downed tools and started debating weighty matters. That leads to a massive consumption of custard creams and The Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy. Before you know it the pre-C20 will be entrenched in their support of String Theory and the packers will be convinced in their lived experience of padded bags and there will be a breakdown of order as the C20 team will have formed an anarcho-syndicalist cabal and will be disrupting the means of production by providing Pz IVa turrets to PzIVh hulls, whilst the despatch team will be randomly assigning packages to based on cosmic ordering and the language of flowers. Meanwhile, Milady in a strike against the patriarchy will reject the notion of sorting moulds in chronological order, in favour of a pseudo-order approved by Simone de Beavoir, whilst the tub chairs will be appropriated by the number crunchers in a shockjng misinterpretation of the principles of Confucius.

For just £5.50, you can order a pack of SC5 "Mahdists - Shaven Head". By this simple act, you will keep a pre-C20 casting dwarf from dabbling in C19 German philosophy, and so prevent the ultimate disintegration of society as we know it.

You'll be sorry when you can't place an order without a 2000 word essay on the Permian Extinction!

Casting dwarves have to be kept busy. It's not well known that Stephen Fry was employed by Minifigs to cast their Ancients ranges until there was a delay in the supply of raw materials and he picked up a copy of the Mabinogian. He had to let go after an altercation with a colleague who was incapable of reciting the lineage of Amphitryon.

Another update now as we have some carpets!  The carpet fitter came on Friday and got them all sorted for us, so we quickly got the office furniture up there and into place.

I thought it was highly creative - 1st rate styff

But I'd warn against dwarves (of any sort) getting embroiled in discussions about String Theory - it all ends up with tears before bed time and is very messy.

Absolutely!  I had a team of programming dwarves who got embroiled in a dispute about the nature of Dark Matter. It was weeks before we could return the teaspoons to the canteen!

As we hit the 2-month mark in our new unit, we can declare Stage 1 complete!

The main rooms are all operational now, so we've got casting and laser machines up and running, the packaging team are getting your orders out to you quickly, and this week we got the office setup so that we can get the paperwork organised properly.  There's a few minor things to tidy up over the rest of this week, door handles, painting, plastic trim, etc but these can be done around the day-to-day jobs.  We've grabbed some pics of the different rooms to show where we were only 8 weeks ago!

With Stage 1 complete we can also now look through all of the current projects and start making some progress on those.  First up will be the Peninsular Napoleonics so keep an eye out for an update there.  The new website will hopefully be ready in a few weeks as well, which will be a real upgrade to the current site.

Stage 2 of our move will be getting the shop ready and open, but work on this won't start for several weeks.  As much as we'd planned and budgeted for the move, there's only so much that can be forecast accurately before you actually get into the building, so the overall costs of the move have been a lot higher than we'd hoped.  We'll need to take some time to refill the bank account before we can start looking at fitting out the shop.

Stage 3 will be the gaming room at the back of the premises, which again will be tackled once we've got the shop opened and things have settled down a bit.

So, keep your orders coming in and we'll get them out to you asap!

I can probably predict something similar 3 months after receipt of the Peninsular Naps so that should cover a roll of till paper for the shop!

Orcs uses pink for jobs that are traditionally done by females - ironing, vacuuming etc. - and blue for jobs done traditionally done by males - lawn mowering, putting up shelves, etc.

No idea what colour is assigned to unisex jobs ;)

I think he probably classifies sleeping on the sofa and painting soldiers as a 'blue' job as well. It is genetic after all.
