Title: Dragonmen
Post by: Fenton on 14 October 2015, 09:51:13 PM
So as Techno can testify to I sent him many PM's annoying him as to when the Flodden range was appearing so I could get some for Warband, and it was mentioned in another post  that he will be working on the Dragonman range soon

Could we get a basic idea of historical period that they will be based on at all?

Cheers

It's going to be a bit of a mishmash of different periods and styles but we've not discussed it just yet.  I'll be having a chat with Steve Hardy to get his input and then me and Phil will work it out.  There's a whole host of options, the Flodden style stuff we've just done, earlier Medieval, Rohan or Gondor types, GoT Starks or Lannisters, the list goes on and on!

Personally I'd prefer something not quite as historically accurate, but not as far as GW's massive swords, pointy helmets and skulls everywhere...

I concur.   ;)

The Dragonmen were designed with an eye on the 'traditional' D&D style sort-of-late-Medieval stuff (with a mental lingering around the Dragonlance imagery), which would fit well with Pendraken's historical figure range, and also mesh closely with 'fantasy men' from many other ranges.

As with all the armies in the book though, they've purposely avoiding being too prescriptive about appearance, in order to give players the space to let their imaginations run wild.

So, 'There's a whole host of options, the Flodden style stuff we've just done, earlier Medieval, Rohan or Gondor types, GoT Starks or Lannisters' gets my vote.   :D

In terms of bespoke sculpts, i'd really like to see the dragon theme coming through strongly.

I don't think your ideas on Dragonmen is quite right yet, Techno. Perhaps a few more months contemplation before you put Dremmel to flesh.

Why don't you make some nice Korean War infantry, or Warsaw Pact, or Napoleonic somethings instead? While you're thinking. Eh? Makes sense.

Give it a few months. After Christmas would be OK for Dragonmen.  Christmas 2016. But you want to get it right.  Better not to rush.

Korean War now, doesn't take thinking about at all. Oh look! Here's a handy illustration!

Modern stuff would be too much of a distraction. What he needs is something more fantastical. An army with weird non-metallic weapons, exotic costumes resembling anthropomorphic animals, blood sacrifices, winged serpents ... I believe one of the forum members mentioned a South American army a little like that, though I don't think he's too fussed if it gets made or not, he hardly ever mentions it ;)

Runequest used to have armoured ducks.

I think their favourite weapon was a polearm of some kind ... not a pike ... nor a halberd ... it had a hook ... and a pointy bit ... now what was it called?

I liked armoured ducks. Can we have armoured ducks? Only things they were scared of was orange sauce.

I think duck men would be an ideal opponent for Dragon men.

When the Dragons toast them you will have crispy duck, all you need is some pancakes and some hoi sin sauce.  Yum Yum  :D

Could we just have a Tales of the Riverbank army instead?

As a suggestion could we start with this sort of Command structure?

The bravest animals in the land are Captain Beaky and his band
That's Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Artful Owl and Batty Bat
They march through the woodlands singing songs
that tell how they have righted wrongs.

If we all request Duck men repeatedly on the request list it will get to the top.

Then the Dark Lord will say "Let there be Duck men"  He will raise his right arm point at Techno and say " what I have commanded YOU WILL MAKE"

And Techno knowing that The Dark Lord is right in all things will Turn to his bench, his Dremel and his putty and maketh that which the Dark Lord hath commanded.

If Techno transgresses and refuses the rightful commands of the Dark Lord, The Dark Lord will go to the one who has  The  One Ring of Power ( All hail M'lady). In her righteous wrath she will turn to Techno and  her fearsome voice will boom out  saying  " YOU REFUSE TO DO THE BIDDING OF THE DARK LORD,  HOW DARE YOU BE SO INSOLENT.  DO HIS BIDDING OR I WILL CAUSE A CURSE TO FALL UPON YOU AND YOU WILL SHOVEL PILES OF HORSE SH*T FOR ETERNITY. "

And Techno will fall to his knees begging for forgiveness, and Duck Men will be made in all the forms  commanded by the Dark Lord.
