Title: Battleground 2015!

Battleground 2015 will be taking place on Saturday November 28th, at the Queen's Campus Sports Hall in Stockton-on-Tees, TS17 6BH, running from 10am until 3pm.
Hosted by Pendraken Miniatures along with Middlesbrough Gamers Club, this show was formerly known as Smoggycon, but from 2014 became Battleground!

Entry to the show is only £3 per person, and we'll be keeping our successful free entry policy for SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) and free entry for the kids as well (Under 14's)!

We've slightly increased the trader selection this year, with 37 companies currently pencilled in, covering a huge variety of genre's and scales.  New traders for 2015 include:
- Grubby Tanks / Britannia - Bringing a huge selection of 20mm goodies and filling a definite gap in our previous trader selection: http://www.grubbytanks.com/catalog/ (http://www.grubbytanks.com/catalog/)
- Studio Miniatures - 28mm Zombies, Sikh Wars and Northwest Frontier, plus more: http://www.studiominiatures.com/ (http://www.studiominiatures.com/)
- Cozzmic Cakes - After they were unable to attend last year, Cozzmic will be bringing their sugary fun to the day with some cool themed cakes: https://www.facebook.com/CozzmicCakes?fref=ts (https://www.facebook.com/CozzmicCakes?fref=ts)

All of the traders can be found here: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!traders/c24i2 (http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/#!traders/c24i2)

We'll also have a fantastic selection of display and participation games lined up, encompassing wargaming, modelling and RPG'ing, which we'll be announcing closer to the date.

And as another addition to this year's event, we've added the 68th Durham Light Infantry living history group to the show, bringing a selection of the 68th's incarnations throughout their history.

The Flea Market is always a great option for any unwanted goodies, where for only £1 per half hour slot, you can sell as much as you like, with no commission at all!  You can deal directly with the buyers, answer any questions they may have, and also keep an eye on your goods. Once your time is up (or better still, you've sold everything!), you can walk away, cash in hand, and enjoy the rest of the show!  The Flea Market will open for bookings soon, so keep an eye out for that!

For all of the info on the traders, games, flea market and more, head over to the Battleground website: http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/ (http://www.battlegroundshow.co.uk/) or Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BattlegroundShow?ref=hl (https://www.facebook.com/BattlegroundShow?ref=hl)

Don't forget to tell your friends about the event and we hope to see you there!

Unfortunately Gateshead Gaming and Caliver Books are unable to attend this year, so we'll have Tor Gaming and Leven Miniatures taking their place instead.  We've also got some more games confirmed:

DISPLAY

Independent Wargames Club - Battle of Rossbach in 30mm, using Black Powder rules.

This weekend is the deadline for all trader bookings, so we should have the finalised trader list ready early next week.

Fabulous to see this home grown show really taking off.

As always far too far away for me to justify the cost of coming but hope its a massive success. I noted on Faceache that there will be some show deals for Christmas. Will those deals be available to those that cant make it through website orders placed over the show weekend?

The show is far away for me too but weather permitting I hope to make the show after a 3 hour plus drive, perhaps with a chum or two.

I wouldn't think so unfortunately, but it would depend on the traders really?  Some of the show deals are regular offers that they have at other shows around the UK, others are one-off special deals they've put on just for Battleground, so you'd probably have to contact them individually and see what they say.

Its the tightfisted Yorkshireman in me Leon :) I once dropped a penny and it hit me on the back of the neck as I tried to catch it before it hit the ground.....

Will Pendraken be offering any show deals via the website?

Unfortunately again, probably not.  The multipack vehicles is something we do at every show, so folks can come along to their local outing and grab those.

And on the Warband offer, the website isn't built to cope with having VAT/non-VAT items in the same deal, so it would be adding VAT to the rulebook making it £19.20 for the rules.  Or it would have everything as 0% VAT and would discount the armies to £22.50 each.  That's obviously a problem at our end and something we need to chat with the webguy about.

Hi

I went to battleground with my nine year old son and had a great time.

We played the the excellent border reivers wild bunch game.

Unfortunately I only spent 12 quid at the pendraken stand .

Been back from Battleground for a wee while now. A 2.5 hour drive each way so not as tiring as the trip to York from Edinburgh. We left early enough to get home over the border before darkness fell having left in darkness in the first place.

My first time at this show and will probably visit again next time around.

A neat little show, not so little actually but constrained by the scale of the premises so doesn't have much upgrade potential unless there's another hall stashed away somewhere. A good mix of traders which some shows don't quite manage so I managed to get my lead, some MDF and some paint which I didn't get at a show last week.

I met a TMP'er in the canteen, 'Hi Jarrovian', going by his TMP handle he didn't have far to travel. The canteen wasn't up to much, under-staffed I would have thought but fortunately, being on a bit of a diet, I managed not to get too excited by the offered menu.

I exchanged a few Scottish Tenners with Pete Berry for a great big bag of 6mm ACW (and some MDF) which will allow me into Longstreet but only after I explore some of the Polemos options. A couple of more tenners extracted a few more Shermans from Dave at Pendraken and a few bottles of paint, nothing in particular that I needed but the colours were 'pretty'. I also got a couple of bottles of 'soft tone' can't remember who from, which I am now, apparently, addicted to.

I had a few short blethers with Leon, longer chats with Martin at Warbases, Stu at Colonel Bills, Erik at Figures in Comfort, Dave Lanchester at Dave Lanchester and a few nameless others (well I can't remember everyone). I took no photographs on the day, didn't see many others doing so apart from a young lady with a tripod. Has anyone blogged any pics yet?

So the plan, back at the ranch, is to finish off a bundle of 28mm Napoleonics by the end of the year, finish the Warmaster/Warband options still in the painting/basing queue, add a few more Shermans and stuff to my Pendraken WW2 setup and then the Baccus ACW stuff. By that time it will be well into 2016 and all priorities will have no doubt changed by then.

Off to our local show which is small, but is always a nice way to fill a few hours on a Sunday morning.

I know a couple of the traders, Colonel Bill and Grubby I think, were coming down to Bristol today so I hope they've had a good weekend.

Well the show seemed quite well attended, which was probably helped by the wet and windy weather. Much better layed out than previous years, but most attention was on the traders rather than the games, some of which looked great but had no one on the table to talk to :o! For once I didn't buy anything, but spent a pleasant hour or so there.

Contary to popular belief Roy I do have a mate, he is invisible to most people but speaks to me when I am in a dark room with nice soft walls and a snug fitting white waistcoat ;D ;D ;D ;D
Redcar Ironbeards had a great day, our game went well and it was good to catch up with fellow gamers.

I will get some pictures of our game up on the Redcar Ironbeards website and facebook page within the next couple of days.

All that is left to say is a big THANK YOU to Dave, Leon and the team at Pendraken for organising a great event

Bloomin' 'eck, that was one hell of a road trip!

Though given how unimpressive Revielle was, I might well consider it myself next year!

Sorry Skywalker, I, of course, was referring to myself.  :-[

If anything I should have labelled myself as the idiot who'd forgot to put sugar in the coffee for Andrew W. - That's why I was on my tod. Andrew had gone to salvage the breakfast order I'd messed up.

You don't have to appologise Roy as your comments made me laugh.
You committed the ultimate sin by getting Andrews coffee order wrong, I am suprised the Marshal didn't get you thrown in jail

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Joking aside it was a great day. I am now the Cleveland and Durham area rep for Gaming Club Network and my mission as I have chosen to accept it is to try aand get all the clubs in the area to interact if possible  :) :)

Our club, Redcar Ironbeards, are starting to get our 2016 calendar populated so if anybody out there in Pendraken are putting together a show and reguire clubs to provide games, either participation or demonstration let me know and I will do my best to help  :) :)

I was talking to Andrew Wylie on the journey to the show and asked him how many local gaming clubs there was to him in the Consett area - There's quite the few! But there's hardly any in my neck of the woods of North Yorkshire :(

There's a small club at Catterick Garrison, that mostly plays Sci-Fi (but have said they would play historical if I brought something along). There's the Ripon Club (but I'm not certain of who they are), and then there's a few local private groups who I've made contact with. This forum's Bodvoc being one (who I need to apologise to, for still not meeting up with and pulling my finger out to play something) and then the Brompton Bankers at Northallerton. There's yourselves at Redcar, and also I've been told I'd be welcome at the Guisborough club, but my problem is transport, so such trips would be only on special occasions.

There is also a small club in Hawes too, which I have been to a couple of times.

There's a club in Middlesbrough on Thursdays and Beanie Games in Stockton has started a dedicated tabletop night on Tuesdays in addition to all its other stuff and I think there's a club in Darlington on Sunday nights.

Yes, there is one at Darlington, now you remind me. The one I know about is a GW club, as I've seen it mentioned on the GW Darlington Facebook page.
