Title: 50 years since Dr Strangelove hit the screens
Post by: burnaby64 on 14 May 2014, 07:36:39 PM
I remember seeing this with schoolfriends when it reached Falkirk and have been a fan ever since. Sellers is magnificent, of course, but George C Scott and Slim Pickens do a great job, too. Wonderful names--General Jack D Ripper, Bat Guano, Major Kong. And in its own way deeply scary.

Never enjoyed it, but never seen the point of black humour. Some topics just aren't funny.

Loved it. Sellers is brilliant but you're right there's a great cast.

Some topics are so awful that laughing is the only sensible response.

Kubrick was the Shakespeare of cinema. Honour to his memory.

Great film, the book it was based on was more serious but very interesting.

In the interests of blatant self promotion, you might like to read this...

"you can't fight in here this is the war room" - President Muffley as George C Scott, (the gung-ho Curtis Lemay type airforce gen) and Russian ambassador start fighting.

Slim Pickens finest moment as Major Kong - so focused on the task in hand

Never seen it also. But then, I was never a great cinema buff.

If into Kubrick movies - try Barry Lyndon set in C18th - one of best linear warfare depictions in movie history - also a rollicking story of his other adventures - but do not play cards with the man

My favourite. As close to a perfect movie as I know.

Tho' we've just watched The Shining, and that remains one hell of a movie.
